The "he can do a job for us brigade" are in :D.

In all seriousness, we need to buy probably a couple of strikers, a left back if not two, a midfield player, a right back and a left sided player. That's just to get the squad numbers up, and we probably also need a top class centre half as well. Now given we haven't got much money, it makes sense to me to get some lads into squad positions who are experienced campaigners, understand the Premiership, and have a bit of backbone about them. For far too long we have been a physical pushover, and lads such as the ones being speck-you-lay-ted about would add a wee bit of steel and power.

Beattie wouldn't be my first choice, but he wouldn't be my last either, and if you asked me honestly who I would rather lead our line at Home to Arsenal, I'd pick him over N'Gog any day of the week. Who would Vermaelen rather play against? There's your answer.

All that said, I don't think we'll sign him  :D.

Good god Arsenal are going to be shitting their pants indeed with the mighty James Beattie running at them  :nod

I reckon it is all a load of sh!te stirred up by bluenoses trying to put the sh!ts up us, well I hope it is and if it isn't, if we start with Beatie next season up front I might just support Bootle f.c instead

This has to be a wind up. I thought we were after that Asamoah Gyan. Sharner is one thing but Beattie? Nobody tell Nando....

I actually agree with some of the others on Scharner. I don't watch a lot of Wigan but I seem to remember him putting in a very good shift against us on a couple occasions last season and maybe the season before that. On one of those occasions (may have been under Steve Bruce) he sat in front of the back four in a midfield five breaking up the play and heading it clear, a role he is definitely better than Lucas in, IMO. If he were to come on that basis I'd take him.

Probably the most bizarre thing is that half of these no hoper players I've mentioned before  I went on about Fingerola last season, and Kevin Doyle (who was originally GYBS's pick) was excellent last season and put in two top drawer performances against us in the league. I mentioned him a couple of weeks back as a credible alternative striker option. He isn't as good as Bent, but he would cost about half as much (around 9 mill IMHO).

You said to me the other day "stay out of my way on here" whilst in the middle of your internet hardman routine number 173. Then your first post since the bilefest is another piece of senseless w@nk, then you tell me to get over myself

I'm back in London now. I'll pm you the address of the boozer so next time you're over you can bob in and we can discuss our differences. That way it saves you boring the people on here with your keyboard gangster routine every five minutes, and me boring the people on here replying to you.

While #9's cantankerous posts towards you are out of line and IMO unwarrented, don't think for a second that it's been boring.

It is officially the silly season now that the World Cup is over after all.  :p

:D Probably not mate I'll grant you that.

It was his "the c... wants setting fire to" line the other day which made me sit up and take notice. There's abuse and there's abuse, maybe it's because I've spent most of my life running boozers with my wife and kids upstairs that that one really got to me, who knows. It was a stinger though alright, no doubt about it .

Anyway, I've pm'd the fella and we move on.
