International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

Same old England, nothing has changed in the last twenty years has it?

Fabio Capello will probably remain as England manager, though I firmly believe he should do the honourable thing and walk away, only time will tell if he will, but he should. He has made the same errors that Sven made when he was in charge of the England squad and that is trying to cram all of our "best" players into one team and forcing the unworkable to work and it just doesn't work.

England for many years now has lacked balance, balance is key to any strong team, you need to have the right formation and the right players to fit into that formation. Unfortunately for whatever reason(s) the last manager to manage that was Terry Venables.  Fabio's mistake was selecting the wrong twenty three. How on earth can you justify selecting SWP when Adam Johnson is a winger that can beat his man, score goals and cross the ball? He went with "experience over youth" and he paid the price. Lampard has done nothing throughout his entire England career to warrant constant selection. Rooney shouldn't have played in the Slovenia and Germany matches because he was useless (what an overrated footballer he is) Zara makes an excellent point about English players at their clubs. He takes an average Gareth Barry over both Huddlestone and Parker who performed immensely well for their respective clubs. He plays an aging Carragher, an average Upson and an injury-stricken King over an inform Michael Dawson, total madness? He refuses to play Joe Cole and plays a winger who cannot cross the ball in Aaron Lennon? Sorry, but match intelligence is more important than pace. You can have all the pace in the world, but technical ability and match intelligence trumps over pace all the time.

The next England manager needs to bring in youth players and bring in players based on form instead of selecting the players that the English media want to see, feck the media. Just look at Maradona, he knows his formation, his style and picks the players accordingly - he doesn't listen to the Argentine press, people questioned him when he picked Palmero, Veron and Gutierrez, but Maradona knew these players were vital to his team and selected them regardless what the Argentine media have said. We need a manager like that, someone who will stand up for himself and now be sub-serviant to the British media.

The usual mistake people seem to make, it's it usually comes from the English media. No surprises there. How ironic. Don't swallow their sh*te, Germany are just a force in the World stage, full stop. They just have a philosphy and ethos drilled into them. They keep things simple and their ego is minimal. They'll be a hard team to beat no matter who they play.

I laugh at the England supporters who are under the illusion that the manager picks their team. He doesn't. The press picks that team. "Rooney's the best striker in the World. He's the white Pele!"

Rooney is most definitely not a Pele and I don't think Rooney will get anywhere near the thirty footballers of all time list, let alone the top ten. A good player by all means, but not a great player.

england will probably qualify for the european championships, what's the bet we'll hear the same "this team is good enough to win it" stuff all over again. With the exception of James I expect the same players as today to be playing.

Rooney - 2 world cups, zero goals

Lineker - 2 world cups - 10 goals.

You tell me who the better player is/was?

FiFA can not duck anymore - it's an utter digrace that in this day-and-age, human error is allowed to prevail over techonology, technology that can restore faith and confidence in the game.

Want to see that ar.se Blatter answer the media questions on this, having lead FiFA's decision to rule it out in March this year !

Yet time and time again people make the same mistake of writing them off. I have always maintained that Germany will always be there abouts at every single tournament, and I am usually proven right because they are. The Germans main problem is not reaching the final, it's winning the final that the Germans have failed at twice in the last decade. And to be honest, I reckon it will be another Brazil vs Germany final and if it is then I believe the Germans will have a tougher test on their hands against Dunga's Brazil then they had against Scolari's Brazil.

I sort of agree. i said before the tournament that they'd get the semis, however Argentina have strong pedigree too and I expect them to beat Mexico.

Sadly this is true, I really want to see the youngsters given a chance. The likes of Danny Rose for Tottenham, Michael Mancienne of Chelsea, Wilshere, Rodwell, Dan Gosling, Andy Carroll and Danny Welbeck should start being introduced phasing out the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand and so on. In two years time, Lampard will be 34, Terry will be 32, Ferdiand will be 34 and Cole will be 30 years old, we cannot end up like Italy and France relying on ancient relics to steer us through. We need to start blooding in the youngesters now. By all means keep some elder players around, as some experience is invaluable, but I fully expect the next England manager to start blooding in youth. European Championship qualifiers and friendlies are the perfect opportunities to do just that.

People have said that Mr Messi doesn't perform for Argentina, yet whenever I have seen him, he has looked excellent. Is such criticism a tad unfair?
