I hope Cristiano gives the Spanish the same treatment that Sir Francis Drake gave those paella eating titheads way back in the day.

You're hoping many things. I just hope to face England in some game and reading you after the game  :D

Sorry if I offend you, I gather you are Spanish? I was raised in a traditional English household and as an Englishman I have to revel in conflicts like the Battle of Waterloo and of course the crushing of the Spanish Armada. No offence meant and yes I would love a Spain vs England match, we'd win hands down. With Fabio Capello as Captain of HMS World Cup 2010, nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible.

Yes you gather right.

No offence taken. I had my history lessons too, including that defeat and other battles that probably are not part of your history.

But that doesn't make me feel badly about nowadays England, to be honest, if I had to hate every country we fought in the past, I'd hate half the world or more :)

I have a big deal of respect to Capello, a few readers around here also know how high I rate Gerrard, and I think England is stronger than they used to be the last time we faced them in a friendly.

It's safe to say Capello has made a strong England, and that in football anything can happen -- Had inter Milan the best men quality wise? No. Did they win? yes.

A good manager can do good to any team and Capello is a good manager.

However, I don't think England will win the World Cup, it will be Brazil this time around.

I also think Brazil will win? they are like the 94 team Dunga captained.

Argentina have a lunatic manager (the greatest player of all time), and Spain just haven't clicked.

Germany may stumble on (like Final in 02 and semi in 06) but I don't see any other contenders.

I think Uruguay will do better than expected.

Im with Alan Hansen, Pele is the greatest player ever.

Beckham however is the most overhyped.

Maradona, the only reason he is behind Pele is that he cheated. Pele didnt need to cheat, he relied on his talent.

Bad news for England fans   :D

English octopus predicts German win

Paul the octopus, with a perfect track record of predicting World Cup matches, has predicted a German win. (AAP)

Disastrous news for England fans ahead of the crunch last-16 match with Germany on Sunday: an octopus in Germany with a perfect track record of predicting World Cup matches has predicted a German win.

Two plastic boxes containing tasty morsels, one with a German flag and one with an England flag, were lowered into the tank that houses Paul the octopus at his home in Sea Life in Oberhausen, western Germany.

Paul immediately climbed into the German box to a huge roar of approval from the crowd.

Earlier in the tournament, the mollusc medium correctly predicted Germany would beat Ghana and Australia in their group D matches and was also right to predict they would lose to Serbia.

And the eight-legged oracle is also coming off a run of good form at major championships. He had an 80 per cent record for Germany games at the European Championships.

England fans have reason to feel somewhat betrayed by his latest prediction. Paul should by rights be an England supporter, having been born at Sea Life in Weymouth on the south English coast

TOP 10 OLDEST SQUADS AT THE WORLD CUP (BY AVERAGE AGE)

01. Brazil 28.609
=02 Australia 28.435
=02 England 28.435
04. ITALY 28.217
05. Paraguay 28.130
=06 Japan 27.826
=06 Portugal 27.826
08. Greece 27.739
09. Denmark 27.696
10. Holland 27.652

TOP 10 YOUNGEST SQUADS AT THE WORLD CUP (BY AVERAGE AGE)

01. Ghana 24.130
02. North Korea 24.783
03. Germany 24.957
04. Cameroon 25.174
05. Nigeria 25.826 - if you believe their ages...................
06. Chile 25.870
07. Spain 25.913
08. Serbia 25.957
09. Slovakia 26.087
10. Algeria 26.217

5/10 of the youngest 10 squads are into R2 compared to 6/10 of the oldest 10 squads. Third youngest against third oldest on Sunday, well joint second oldest but that doesn't work as well
