FFS, the number of players we're linked with on the LFC official site is just bleedin' comical....this, from a club in complete turmoil without a pot to pi$$ in, and a manager supposedly on his way out the door....

I would love for Steven to stay, but it would be really interesting to see how he would do at Madrid.

I heard that he had signed for a EPL team but it didn't mention any specific club. He has been heavily linked with Man City though so most likely them rather than us  :(

We can but hope. Maybe it's another part of the elaborate master plan at LFC that will see the ownership change hands soon, a new top class manager installed and everything will be rosey for the rest of 2010.

OK, so I hve had a few beers today  :bump

If we have signed Toure it is probably part of a deal with Mascha going the other way?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

City release trio - Eastlands exodus begins   8th June 2010

Manchester City have begun to cut their squad by announcing the departures of three players during the summer.

With manager Roberto Mancini set to strengthen his side with a wealth of riches of offer, City have decided to allow winger Martin Petrov, striker Benjani and full-back Sylvinho to leave the club after their contracts expired.

Petrov and Benjani were signed by former boss Sven Goran Eriksson after Thaksin Shinawatra's takeover, but following the Abu Dhabi United group's buyout in 2008, both players have seen their chances limited.

Petrov is likely to have a few options ahead of him after initially impressing at Eastlands, making 34 appearances and scoring five goals in his first campaign.

However, he has become out of favour after suffering from a catalogue of injuries and the arrivals of Shaun Wright-Phillips, Adam Johnson and Craig Bellamy affecting his first team chances.

Petrov had a short stint in the starting line-up upon Mancini's arrival in December 2009, but injuries yet again have set the Bulgaria international back.

Benjani leaves the club two-and-a-half years after joining from Portsmouth after failing to impress on a loan spell at Sunderland.
The 31-year-old is another to have suffered from serious injury problems but has seen himself a long way from the first team with Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Former Arsenal and Barcelona full-back Sylvinho leaves after just one year back in England and may seek a return to Spain.
Former manager Mark Hughes obtained the 35-year-old veteran as an experienced back-up in his defence, but Mancini has not utilised the player and allowed him to see out his final years at another club.

Also released are striker Jack Redshaw, goalkeeper Tobias Johansen and midfielder Karl Moore.

Rivals beginning to circle after Chelsea release Joe Cole and Michael Ballack

Chelsea will confirm the imminent departures of Joe Cole and Michael Ballack on Wednesday on free transfers after the pair failed to agree new contracts at Stamford Bridge.

The club have been negotiating with the players’ representatives over extensions to contracts that expire this summer for several months, but have been unable to agree terms, and the players will leave as free agents on July 1.

Chelsea’s surprise announcement will spark a scramble for their signatures, as despite falling out of favour in West London both players are very much in demand. Cole recovered from a disappointing domestic season to earn a place in England’s World Cup squad at the eleventh hour and is in contention to start their opening match of the tournament, against the United States on Saturday, while Ballack would have been in South Africa as Germany captain had he not suffered an ankle injury in Chelsea’s FA Cup Final win over Portsmouth.

Cole has attracted strong levels of interest from all of Chelsea’s leading rivals in the Premier League, with Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur set to follow up their initial inquiries over the next few days. Given Cole’s desire to stay in London and the appeal of being reunited with Harry Redknapp, White Hart Lane appears to be his most likely destination because Tottenham, unlike Arsenal and Liverpool, would have little problem matching his wage demands. An offer to work with Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford would, however, be hard to turn down.

Ballack will leave England after four seasons at Chelsea that, despite delivering one Premier League title and two FA Cups, he will look back on with some disappointment. He, too, will have no shortage of suitors. Werder Bremen have made clear their desire to bring him back to Germany, and José Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has made contact with his representatives to examine the possibility of Ballack joining Real Madrid.

Several wealthy clubs in the United Arab Emirates Pro League are also preparing to make him an offer should he decide to opt for a lower quality of football while remaining on high wages.

Cole’s future at Chelsea looked bleak for most of the season after contract talks broke down after Christmas. Cole had been holding out for a £20,000-a-week pay rise to £100,000, but Chelsea refused to budge, to such an extent that the initial offer of £85,000 a week was withdrawn.

Ballack, 33, was seeking a new two-year contract that would enable him to play on at the highest level until the 2012 European Championship, an even more important aspiration after missing the World Cup finals, whereas Chelsea were willing only to give him another year. Ballack offered to take a big pay cut and make the second year contingent upon him playing a large number of games next season, but Chelsea were not willing to back down.

Chelsea’s decision to release two of their senior players is the tangible evidence of long-professed desire for financial retrenchment of Roman Abramovich, the owner, taking effect, although it could end up costing them money in the short term. Carlo Ancelotti, the manager, is intending to promote five youngsters to the first team next season, but finding effective replacements for Cole and Ballack will not be cheap.

Fiorentina ready to end Emiliano Insua's Liverpool hell with £3.5m bid to prise Argentine left-back

Fiorentina are weighing up a £3.5million bid for Liverpool left-back Emiliano Insua.

The 21-year-old has been at Liverpool since 2007 and impressed when he first broke into the side but has suffered from poor form this year.

Liverpool have released Fabio Aurelio but are keen to find a new left-back once a new manager is in place

Birmingham rekindle interest in Ryan Babel

Birmingham City have entered the race to sign in-demand Hamilton midfielder James McArthur and are to revive their interest in Liverpool's Ryan Babel.
.
.
.
Birmingham manager Alex McLeish is also ready to rekindle an £8m move for Liverpool's Ryan Babel and will make a check on his other striker target South African Katlego Mphela of Mamelodi Sundowns at the World Cup.

The 25-year-old is raw but was top scorer in the country last season with 17 goals. Palermo striker Fabrizio Miccoli, however, is McLeish's main target.

Birmingham have already had an initial approach for Miccoli rejected and they hope to tempt Palermo into selling the 30-year-old by offering £4m.

Babel would prefer to take stock of Liverpool's managerial change before opting to leave Anfield although a good offer could be hard for cash-strapped Liverpool to resist.

Rafa Benitez returns to Liverpool with £33m offer for Dirk Kuyt and Javier Mascherano

Inter Milan hope a bid of £33million will be enough to prise Javier Mascherano and Dirk Kuyt from Liverpool.
Javier Mascherano of Liverpool

Off to Italy? Javier Mascherano could be leaving Liverpool for Inter

The Italians have finalised an agreement for Rafa Benitez to be their next manager and will present him at the San Siro as soon as the Spaniard cuts short his holiday.

And the 50-year-old, who knows all about the financial constraints at Anfield, is ready to raid his former club for trusted allies.

While there is an interest in Fernando Torres, Inter acknowlege that competing with Chelsea would make it difficult to sign the Spain striker.

Mascherano and Kuyt, however, are more achievable signings and are thought to be open to teaming up with their former boss.

Kuyt was quick to praise the man who took him from Feyenoord to Anfield earlier this week, saying: 'I don’t know for sure who is going to be in charge at Inter, but Benitez is a fantastic coach and would be a great choice for them.

'Working with him is perfect and I am grateful for all he did for me. I was delighted when he asked me to join him at Liverpool, and while we were together, he gave me a lot of good suggestions about how I could improve my game.

'He was good for my career. I have read a lot about what might happen now, if he goes to Inter, but I am just concentrating on the World Cup.

'That is important, because I want to have a good tournament. I have a contract with Liverpool, and I have to respect that, because they are a big club and have been good to me.'
Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt

Yes, I'm leaving Liverpool: Dirk Kuyt is wanted by old boss Rafa Benitez

Mascherano pondered a move to Barcelona last summer but has since insisted he is happy at Liverpool.

However, the commitment has not been reciprocated by an acceptable new contract offer and talks with the Reds have been shelved until after the World Cup.

Barcelona are also interested in the Argentina captain but are also looking at cheaper alternatives for the holding role vacancy about to be created by Yaya Toure leaving for either Arsenal or Manchester City.

Tottenham's Wilson Palacios is among those who Barca are considering as an alternative to targeting Mascherano.

Meanwhile, Inter have put aside £25m to move for Valencia and Spain midfielder David Silva, who is also a target for Manchester City and Real Madrid, but is said to be keen to join up again with the manager who brought him through at the Mestalla.

Meanwhile, Benitez's three-year contract at the San Siro is reported to be worth £65,000 a week - less than half of what Inter paid Jose Mourinho.

The European champions were turned down by England boss Fabio Capello, Barcelona's Pep Guardiola and Turkey's former Chelsea chief Guus Hiddink before turning to the man who led Liverpool to seventh in the Barclays Premier League last season.
