Not going to say this happens as I clearly don't want us to lose Gerrard.

However if Gerrard does go then I would welcome the arrival of Stephen Ireland. I can't think of too many homegrown players who could go some way to filling Gerrard's boots to be honest.

Not sure what people's gripes are with Ireland. 2008/09 he was Man City's player of the year. Last season was poor for him but that was because the new manager didn't fancy him.

Old Gilberto Silva, linked with players and we haven't even got a manager, no thanks anyway.

The stronger get stronger, The Reds get..... err nothing actually.

City to hold Silva talks     23rd June 2010

Manchester City have been given permission to hold talks with Valencia winger David Silva over a move to the Premier League.
Cash-strapped Valencia have already been forced to sell David Villa to Barcelona this summer and now look poised to offload Silva.
The 24-year-old, who is currently with the Spain squad at the World Cup finals, has repeatedly been linked with a switch to England, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United mooted as admirers.

Champions Chelsea are also rumoured to be fans of Silva, with the attacking midfielder recently admitting he would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge. However, it now appears City have stepped up the hunt for Silva after being given the go-head to discuss a deal with the player.

Valencia confirmed Roberto Mancini's side have been allowed to meet with Silva, but stated no agreement has been reached regarding a price. "As has been said, there is interest from Manchester City and we have permitted them to talk to the player, but we have reached no agreement and we have not talked about a fee," said Valencia's deputy chairman Javier Gomez.

Juan Manuel Mata has also been linked with a move away from the Mestalla, with reports claiming he would join Villa at Barcelona.

Gomez, though, has rejected that piece of speculation and has told reporters that no negotiations are taking place regarding a deal for Mata.

not much in this but always nice to think positive...

Liverpool Join Chase to Complete £17.1m England Midfielder Deal: Roy Hodgson Keen On Signing Joe Cole If He Takes Anfield Hot Seat

Soon to be unveiled Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is said to be looking to make former Chelsea man Joe Cole his first new signing. The Fulham manager is touted by many to be very close to being named successor to Rafa Benitez at Anfield and he is rumoured to be very keen on getting the financial backing of the board to make an offer for the out of contract England man.

The 28 year old’s wage demands appear to stretch to a three year deal that would cost in the region of £17.1m and with the likes of Arsenal and AC Milan leading the chase for the talented attacker the Merseyside club would have to be quick in registering their interest.

Any such move for the Londoner may well tempt Cole as he could presumably be guaranteed a first team spot at the club, something he seemingly could not secure at Stamford Bridge. Any concern over the player’s insistence on a £110k a week wage would be allayed by the fact that no transfer fee is needed to secure the deal.

Previous interest shown by Liverpool in Cole: Cole is now in a quandary. There will be no shortage of clubs interested in him this summer – and tentative offers are being made – with Liverpool understood to be keen. (Telegraph)
