Does anyone have any good news ..... its going to be a painfully long summer if we rise to every bit of worthless bait the tabloids spew.

These people dont care about the accuracy of their drivel, they're just out to create sensational headlines to sell papers.

Remember, the internet is slowly putting newspapers out of business, they'll write anything to sell a few extra copies and football supporters are a large percentage of their readership - becuase of drivel stories like this.

Liverpool are bracing themselves for a massive financial hit as they look to offload some of their worst flops.

And that could mean that disastrous Italian signing Alberto Aquilani will end up costing them more than £1million a game if they succeed in shipping him out of Anfield swiftly.

The club are ready to listen to offers for Aquilani after manager Rafa Benitez confirmed his one disappointing season at the club will be his last.

And though the Italian cost £20million, there is little chance to recoup even half that, with the Anfield club aware they may be forced to go as low as £7million to ensure they get him off the wage bill.

The midfielder is one of the highest earners at Liverpool, with wages in excess of £70,000 a week, and with finances tight after record losses for the 2008-09 season, there is a need to invest more wisely.

He has started just 12 matches since his big money move from Roma last summer, and with wages of more than £3m a year, that could mean his cost will work out at £1.3million a start if they only get £7million back.

Fiorentina are interested in the player, but the Tuscan side will not go above £7million, and his wages are also thought to be a major barrier to the Italian club's attempts to bring him back home.

Benitez accepts that the midfielder is not cut out for a central midfield role in the hurly burly of the Premier League, and he will be quietly allowed to leave.

Ryan Babel is also on the list of players who will be allowed to leave the club, and he is unlikely to command any where near his original fee of £12.5million, while striker David Ngog will also be let go to raise funds.

Nabil El Zhar, Philipp Degen, Fabio Aurelio, Damien Plessis and Diego Cavalieri could all be allowed to leave on free transfers or for negligible fees, while Albert Riera will be ushered out of the club as quickly as possible after his bust-up with the manager, again for a fraction of his original cost.

To be fair Maddock is a wan'ker.

The amount of games Aquilani played for us last season was disappointing. That is not to say that he is a disappointing player. On the contrary I believe that he has much to give us and can become one of our better players... if we keep him... selling him now would be a mistake...

The article is bull anyway... And thanks for lakes for posting in other threads to come and look at this BS article... and you wonder why you're getting that much stick on the forum...

fecking rafa your a disgrace. Why lose millions on a player who hasnt been given a chance. Id much rather keep aqua play him behind torres and sell gerrard and buy a top striker and winger with the money.

Alberto Aquilani's agent has laughed off speculation the Liverpool midfielder will return to Italy in the summer after just one season on Merseyside.

Reports in England have linked the 25-year-old with a speedy return to Serie A after joining the Reds in the summer from Roma for £20million.

After a disappointing year at Anfield, some have suggested Rafa Benitez is willing to offload the injury-prone Italian in a cut-price deal, with Juventus and Fiorentina said to be interested.

But Aquilani's representative Franco Zavaglia has shunned claims his client will leave the Premier League underachievers.

"A return to Italy? It seems a journalistic shot of the British tabloids," Zavaglia told Tuttomercatoweb.com. "I don't know anything, because Alberto is well in Liverpool.

"There is talk of Juventus and Fiorentina but the Bianconeri have to define the structure of the club before thinking about the market.

"Equally, Fiorentina has the issue of Cesare Prandelli to resolve.

"Aquilani has recovered well from his ankle injury and for this reason I think Liverpool won't get rid of him."

Diego
Juve have yet to comment on whether they are interested in signing Aquilani but Diego's agent insists the Brazilian playmaker will not be making way for the Reds' creative midfielder this summer.

Diego, who has endured a difficult first campaign in Italy, would be the player likely to lose his place in the team if the Old Lady purchase the Liverpool performer.

But the former Werder Bremen star's agent Giacomo Petralito claims he will shine next season and that Lionel Messi would have failed to impress at the Stadio Olimpico this term.

"He doesn't leave Juventus, they're just rumours," he said.

"Next year will be his year, he will be a protagonist for Juventus. (Zinedine) Zidane and (Michel) Platini too had problems in their first season.

"Diego began very well and this means that the qualities are there. Something did not work, but he just needs time, Italian football is very tactical. And then, this season at Juventus, Messi would also be in trouble."

We have players here who have had more than one- injury hit season to make an impression, who need shifting before him.

I am aware that every year for Aquilani seems to be injury-hit. Point still stands, though.

Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani insists he wants to remain at the club to make amends for his injury-ravaged season.

Aquilani made a £20million switch from Roma last summer but did not feature until late October because of an ankle problem sustained while on duty with the Italian club.

The 25-year-old was restricted to just 13 starts in his first season at Anfield, although he did feature in the final four matches of the campaign as Rafa Benitez's side finished seventh in the Premier League.

That led to speculation the Italian was on course to make a swift return to his native country in the close season, with Juventus said to be interested in a deal.

But Aquilani has scotched such rumours and insisted he wanted to remain on Merseyside to prove his worth in the English top flight.

He told Italian newspaper Leggo: "I am staying at Liverpool to make up for many things. I have finally recovered from my ankle injury.

"Juve have approached me in the past and now I'm reading of their interest, but I really don't know anything about it."

If he's honest about wanting to show he has what it takes, I say give him the opportunity. There's always the Jan transfer window if it isn't working out.
Plus, this new Australian medical wonderguy is set to take over and hopefully sort out the sick list....
Why not ? We've spent enough - no point selling him yet...
