Yeh , their early stuff was all bluesy , and then they had a couple of hits (Albatross,Man of the World and Green Manalishi) but they only got really big in the 70's after Stevie Nicks and Lyndsy Buckingham joined the band.
Rumours is a masterpiece of popular music.

As good as Jon Paul George and Ringo were they weren't a patch on Ron Dirk Stig and Barry from the fabulous Rutles . Unfortunately they only made the one album "All You Need is Cash" awho could forget the Mega Smash "Doubleback Alley"

"We had a good time in doubleback alley
With fences to climb and Father O'Malley
To clip your ear and steer you clear
Of the funny man by the ice cream van
That talked so queer

Doubleback Alley takes me back and in my mind I see
Happy smiling faces if I flog my memoryeeeeeee "

eighties were transitional era from analog to digital instruments,
many songs sound like experimental and a bit odd to me
but some of them are not bad (e.g. duran duran)

Gentlemen please your jumping on some ludicrous bandwagon

I was a teenager throughout the eighties and it had some good stuff

Starting with the two tone scene early on with the emergence of the new wave acts like the Jam etc  pure class

The new romantics with some decent tunes and who can forget Frankie goes to Hollywood politics and music
Remember the era of the miners strike and not the apathy we have around today

We also had rap breaking out of its shell and getting stronger

The emergence of the madchester scene

Thats just for starters
