You've got to take Carson's age into consideration though. He's still only 23, he's a Premiership regular and he's in the England squad regularly. If Villa want him, then they can cough up.

NANNY RED wrote:Thats what i cant get my head around Saint Why sell a quality midfielder like Xabi just to bring in Barry who imo is not better,

We must be absolutly brassic to even contemplate thinking about selling him. Its clear in his interviews he doesnt wanna leave. The lad loves it here and is being pushed into a corner.

I bet you this sell Xabi lark is coming from them two bas.tards

Whose next ,its a disgrace as far as im concerned we should be strengthning the team with quality not selling it.

Others are gonna be buying vases from Harrods were gonna end up buying six glasses for a pound at the hock shop

Yeah thats whats gets up my nose Nanny,  even if your happy to sell Xabi which im not

It speaks volumes of where we stand in transfer kitty stakes.

Still cant believe we are mucking around with rolls royce of team while we have Lada's out on the wings

I'm eager to hear those answers too.

I just hope we don't make the same mistake Real Madrid did with Makelele. Makelele hadn't skill, was not good enough for Madrid's galacticos. Then they spent 4 seasons looking for a decent holding midfielder.

Well, since Alonso just can't make it in the PL a player like Barry, even though less skilled is much more used to the pace and toughness of the league.
Also as we all know money isn't exactly available in droves, so
keeping Masch, Gerrard, Lucas and Plessis with Guthrie as an option would be fine by me if we could use the money to buy
a striker(since we have only one since Crouch is not in favour)
or to maybe finally buy a winger och fullback which we havn't done for 3 years now...

I have always been a fan of Joaquin, and with Valencia's poor season we might get him at a reasonable price.
He has pace to burn and is very irrational with much skill in his locker.
Even if rafa has this obbsession with with the centre of the park, we have more than enoughif we are ever going to give Plessis a chance.
And I see no chance of Lucas leaving.

So, he's not been under his par but couldn't make it in the PL, I see.

Probably Juventus wants him because he's pretty.

I take it Barry is well known in UK and he must be used to the toughness and pace of the league with greatest amount of foreigners in Europe.

But is he used to the pressure of a big club too? Is he what we need?. A swap like that is a gamble at best.

Joaquin hasn't really excelled in Valencia, and he has been dropped of the Spanish squad. Great talent, great dribbling, but his professionalism is a big question mark.

Gimme a break.

We all know why Juventus and barca would like him.
He would be great in a slow paced league when he will have all the time in the world on the ball.

And about Joaquin.
Let me remind you about Torres. He has all the skill in the world but for some reason in Spain he always only got around 15 goals and many questioned if he ever could take his game to another level. In Liverpool he has a spanish manager, several spanish teammates who made him feel comfortable.
I believe Joaquin could make the same step up in that enviroment.

Fair enough about the last point. I've learned to not doing much predictions about adaptation of foreign leagues. Who could tell the small and tricky Luis Garcia could do well in this league?, who could tell Torres' success?

No doubt Joaquin has the quality and under the right manager things might change, so fair enough.

But saying that Alonso didn't make it (I understand that as he was a failure, correct me if I'm wrong) is too much, IMHO. Granted there's a lot of competition in the middle of the pitch, but I'd never consider him a failure in the league!

In Rafa we trust Sabre? :D

If Rafa is willing to sell Alonso - for whatever reason, be it loss of form, money problems or because he thinks Barry is better suited to the team and formation he wants to play next season who are we to say he is wrong or gambling?

Only pulling your chain mate  :D

I wish I understood this better, as there must surely be more to this than meets the eye? Any benefit from the supposed sale and purchase would be fairly small both in money and ability (perhaps more options?) so unless there is an underlying reason (as with the Bellamy sale) it must be just down to Alonso's disappointing form over the past couple of years.

Alonso had a very good 1st couple of seasons but once other teams started hounding him giving him no time on the ball, alot of Alonsos strenghts vanished. He is not a great tackler or a clean ball winner like masch, but he is great a distributing the ball. But he has been found out and isn't getting the time he needs so now he only can make 5-10 yard passes most of the time. He has lost his effectivness now for a long time and other team won't allow him to do what he once did.

It is time to accept that.

S@int, don't worry, Rafa will only lose 5% of his credit should he sells Alonso cheaply. SO I'm afraid next season I'll be in the rosed tinted brigade no matter what.  :D

And fair enough about the rest. I'd be astonished he sold Alonso cheaply mate, but if indeed that happens, we cannot read the situation otherwise: that will mean Alonso has dissapointed Rafa this last two seasons. But we're not there, are we?

Also, results is what matters mate, not Alonso. If next season Alonso is away, Barry is in, and we win the league, where do I have to sign up? I want that too!. Time will tell though.

I tell you what flower - find any post where I've said Lampard comes close to Gerrard, and I'll agree with you.

Until that day, you're a c*nt.
