The Alonso Thread - hands in transfer request

We have  lot of midfielders on the books and the emergence of Plessis has added another to the mix.

Alonso has had his moments at Liverpool but overall and particularly last season his contribution has been pretty ordinary in my opnion.

I think he may do well in a better team that likes to keep the ball moving but its obvious now that Rafa favours Mascherano and Gerrard and £15m for a third choice player is decent money when we need to be stronger in other areas.

In an ideal situation we would be able to keep all our better players and just keep adding quality but if needs must a sacrifice will have to be made and Alonso is on that list it seems.

sorry, but replacing Alonso with Lucas or Plessis is a jump in the wrong direction

JUVENTUS have been told they will have to come up with a massive offer if they are to even tempt Rafa Benitez to part with Xabi Alonso.

Fortunately there seems to be people in the club who know what they're up to  and what they talk about when it comes to football market. At least this, is a good base to start a bidding war. What it didn't make sense whatsoever, is to be in MAY, and sell Xabi cheaply to the first incoming offer. When teams like Barcelona hasn't even finnished their shopping list because they have a new manager, agreeing a low teens transfer of Alonso was beyond my comprehension.

FFS, quality footballers, and LIverpool have many (not talking about world class, just quality) are expensive. Go to Racing and they won't sell you a unproven in a bigclub CB for nothing.

Go to Portugal and ask for Simao. Go to Sevilla and ask for ALves. See what they ask for players that haven't won a CL.

Then we're going to sell our players cheap? Thank God we're not that despaired.

Thats what i cant get my head around Saint Why sell a quality midfielder like Xabi just to bring in Barry who imo is not better,

We must be absolutly brassic to even contemplate thinking about selling him. Its clear in his interviews he doesnt wanna leave. The lad loves it here and is being pushed into a corner.

I bet you this sell Xabi lark is coming from them two bas.tards

Whose next ,its a disgrace as far as im concerned we should be strengthning the team with quality not selling it.

Others are gonna be buying vases from Harrods were gonna end up buying six glasses for a pound at the hock shop
HE WHO BETRAYS WILL ALWAYS WALK ALONE

I don't mind a sacrifice if I can see some benefit from it. I wanted to sell Alonso last season if it meant we got a top striker in (before Torres :D  ) but I just can't see how swopping Alonso for Barry with little if any profit gives much benefit?

That's the point S@int. I agree. I don't cut my veins for seeing Alonso leaving, sometimes, you know, you don't have all the money you'd like to have, and you have to sell. Regardless the Americans are twáts or not, Rafa has to take decissions. And Xabi is a good candidate because he has quality, he is wanted, and his position is a position in which there's a lot of competition.

I like Xabi as much as Mascha (pros and cons) but I understand it's a good candidate if we have to take a decission. But FFS, if we do that, let's sell expensive. We can't buy the left leg of Alves with 12M.

lets not get too steamed up, eh? all we have is journalistic rumours and denials from the player and the manager. we can have barry AND alonso in the squad even though we already have a more than adequate central midfield. look at how many strong midfield options the top two clubs have this season - having one more will bring us on a par with them for the next one.

Sensible post mate.

The problem of us steaming up, is that we're football addicts.

When we don't have football, and we're waiting for the Euro, which is a nice thing to make the wait until next league easier, we have to discuss something.

And here in Newkit at the end of the season we always talk about Rafa, the Alonso debate, and some traditional other issues  :D

But as you comment, it's only articles and rumours so far

I just don't understand why so many Liverpool supporters have to fall in love with every player that plays regular 1st team football.

If everyone are so great why doesn't we win the league.

Like this year for example.

Gerrard, Torres, Masch, Carra, Skrtel, Kuyt, Alonso, Reina
Hyppia, Aurelio, Babel were the players we used most of this past season.

And for some reason fans thinks like this:

Everyone of those players are great and it is because of bit part players like Voronin, Risse etc that we fail to get within distance from Manure.

What kind of logic is that?

For example everyone could see that Sissoko, Cisse were limited and just not up to the standard required in this league. But they had their moments and still even now some think they should never have been sold. Beggars belief really when you think how :censored: they were at times.

And now Alonso. He is a player with phenomenal skill, but it is just so painfully obvious he is eaten alive in this fast paced league and he just can't handle it and hasn't done it for the past couple of seasons. And still people go on about his 1st season as some kind of "love at 1st sight thing"
I don't care if a player was great if he is really poor now.
It is now that counts and if people takes of their blindfolds
they will see that Alonso hasn't done jack for a very long time and hasn't been effective at all.

Kuyt is another example who scored  3 goals(pens) as a striker for something like 23 games before we just couldn't keep him there. Still people love him because he was just so great in the 1st game vs West Ham. Pathetic I say.
He is just lacking in so many areas it's horrifying and has been pisspoor 90% of the season and still we all love Kuyt.
And a whole season doesn't count as a blip on the radar or just poor patch of form. It is genuinly rubbish, nothing more, nothing less.

It's all Voronin and Risse's fault. Blame them...   :no

I don't hate certain players and I will wish them the best when they move on, but my priority is LFC and not some player who was good once.

Who would you prefer we signed in place of Alonso, and who do you think we should sign in other positions you mentioned e.g. wings, up front. Específicamente, por favor. [/?]

well penguin there is one slight problem with your rant we dont all love kuyt cause he is actually quite rubbish along with voronin and riise, but we have to support them........they are our team!!! ffs
but as you put it i for one would not be sad if any of those players left, well maybe kuyt because granted he is mr i play loads of games but never score, but he works harder than many men in the game of football, people always go on tevez this and tevez that but to be fairly honest kuyt is the almost like tevez in the way he plays, except for the fact he doesn't score often, i dont like him, but he has been a damn good worker, through thick and thin!(this coming from someone that when he plays on any sort of football game sells kuyt, pennant, riise and voronin straight away!!!!)

btw i looked up that kid the italian we are buying for left wing back (dossena), on every game and i mean everygame he is overly terrible, degen looks quite good though and also one other thing!, dossena is rightfully a centre back

Juventus open talks to buy £15m Alonso

Juventus have held talks with Liverpool about signing Xabi Alonso. Jean-Claude Blanc, a representative of Juventus, met Rafael Benítez on Tuesday, although the Liverpool manager has informed the Italian club that it will cost at least £15 million to buy the Spain midfield player.

The sale of Alonso would also be dependent on Liverpool signing Gareth Barry, the Aston Villa captain. Benítez is hoping to tie up a deal for Andrea Dossena, the Udinese left back, and has defended the reputed £10 million valuation of Scott Carson, the goalkeeper, despite Villa’s claims that it is unrealistic.

I read it was £16m Rafa wanted for Alonso, then again we could see Barry's fee rise if O'Squeal has his way. I'd rather we put it in Barry's head he can play for Liverpool and he gets to buy out his last year of contract so we sign him much cheaper.

Can any fans on here defend the £10m valuation of Carson? That would make him more expensive than Cech, Reina, Gordon and I think every other keeper in this country ever was, is he better than them? He's not better than Reina or he'd be in the Liverpool XI so I'd be interested to know how much Rafa rates Reina at................

As far as I was aware the fee was £2million for the loan, plus £8million if they took up the option to buy him. So its not really a £10million transfer fee - I still think its bloody dear for Carson though. £6Million would be about right I would think, still leaving us with a tidy profit on a player that I don't think is that good anyway.
