Greatest lfc game ever? - What's the best game you've seen?

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby stmichael » Tue Feb 17, 2004 4:37 pm

the best game for me in terms of atmosphere was probably the 3-3 game against man u in 93/4 when we were 3-0 down after 22 mins. just a fantastic comeback. in terms of football quality, the first 4-3 against newcastle was unbelievable because it was when newcastle were at their peak under keegan and we had collymore and god banging goals in for fun. whats the best lfc game you've seen.

stmichael, loved that game with the mancs but can't believe itwas 93/94.  I was in a packed out kop that day. They lost the league on Merseyside thta day.  we get the again towards the back end of the season be nice to do some damage to their title hopes once more. some consolation

I'd have to go for the 5-0 demolition of Forest in 87-88, pure quality from start to finish. Barnes and Beardsley were awesome - as the whole team were that season.

Games that stand out?
Well for pure football artistry at it's best it would be the '74  3-0 cup final win against Newcastle and the 5-0 hammering of Forest mentioned by RobtheRed.
For starting our great European Campaigns, it was the first leg 3-1 win over Inter Milan - who were the Kings of Europe at the time and only a ref who took bribes cost us the European Cup that year.
But for pure excitement it has to be the magnificient game against St Etienne at Anfield - thanks to that other supersub, David Fairclough and a great team performance.
I was drained after that one!

I have to say that I have seen most of best games ever in my life,

Liverpool 3 Auxerre 0 (Molby (pen), Marsh, Walters in UEFA Cup 3rd or 4th Round in 1991/92

Liverpool 4 Newcastle 3 in 93/94 (i think)

Liverpool 2 AS Roma 0 (2 years ago)

Liverpool 5 Panathiankos 0 (European Cup Semi Final 84/85)

My old man's his favourite game was Liverpool v St Ettiene - thanks to Supersub David Fairclough, what a goal. My old man got drunk in the Kop and after game, he spent the night in custody at Police Station! Couldn't believe it!

The best I have seen in my generation are:

Liverpool 3-3 Manchester United 1994-95 Premiership
Liverpool 7-0 Rochdale 1995-96 FA Cup
Liverpool 5-0 Leeds United 1995-96 FA Cup
Liverpool 3-0 Aston Villa 1995-96 FA Cup
Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle United 1995-96 Premiership
Liverpool 6-0 Manchester City 1995-96 Premiership
Liverpool 6-3 FC Sion 1996-97 European Cup Winners Cup
Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle United 1996-97 Premiership
Liverpool 3-2 Everton 1998-99 Premiership
Liverpool 7-1 Southampton 1998-99 Premiership
Liverpool 3-1 Everton 2000-01 Premiership
Manchester United 0-1 Liverpool 2000-01 Premiership
Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United 2000-01 Premiership
Liverpool 3-2 Everton 2000-01 Premiership
Liverpool 2-1 Birmingham City 2000-01 League Cup
Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal  2000/01 FA Cup
Liverpool 1-0 FC Barcelona 2000-01 UEFA Cup
Liverpool 5-4 Alaves 2000/01 UEFA Cup
Ipswich Town 0-6 Liverpool 2001/02 Premiership
Liverpool 5-0 Ipswich Town 2001/02 Premiership
AS Roma 0-2 Liverpool 2001/02 Champions League
West Brom 0-6 Liverpool 2002/03 Premiership
Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United 2002/03 Premiership
Everton 0-3 Liverpool 2003/04 Premiership

They are the games that have given me very faint hope that it is worth sticking by Liverpool for all these years.

FA cup final 2001 against arsenal that was great from an emotional point of view and as a spectacle, there has been better quality games, but that one sticks out for me.

I remember 3 fantasic games of LFC:
*Liverpool - Newcastle 4-3  it's one of my reasons to pretend english football is N1 in Europe - better than boaring fag-calcio, primera division, bundesliga etc.
*Liverpool - Syon 6-3 after 1-2 win in Switzerland and 2-3 in the 1st half at Anfield. 45 000 singing YNWA in the end of the game - best football athmosphere moment I've ever seen (excluding Levski Sofia games :p )
*Liverpool - Alaves 5-4 the best prove that European Tournament Final without english club is like meal with no salt. Times better than boaring antifootball Ch. League final between Real and Bayern.
