Reds still working on transfers
Written by Jim Boardman
Wednesday, 07 June 2006
Liverpool’s chief executive Rick Parry is no doubt in the middle of one of the busiest times of the year for himself right now, with transfer negotiations both in and out the top of his agenda. Birmingham City said yesterday they’d been in contact with Rick to tell him they weren’t looking to sell Jermain Pennant, and some reports are saying Blackburn have sent a similar message over Craig Bellamy. Other targets for Parry to bring home to Rafael Benitez are also being worked on, but until agents or clubs need to up the stakes these things are rarely leaked in much detail.

On the transfers out side of things, Djibril Cisse seems to be the priority for offloading, and he’d attract the highest fee. It’s that fee that is now being reported as a stumbling block for him to be able to join the team he supported as a boy – Marseilles. Liverpool have been asking for at lest £7million for the player, but Marseilles are trying to haggle. Reports say that Liverpool allowed Cisse to speak over personal terms with Marseilles ahead of him getting his head down to concentrate for the World Cup, and he and the club came to an agreement.

Chris Kirkland is still favourite to land at Wigan, as he seeks to try and get his career back on track after a long time out injured for one reason or another. He’s effectively become fourth choice goalkeeper at Anfield now, behind Pepe Reina, Jerzy Dudek and Scott Carson. Dudek still wants to leave Anfield, but Scott Carson is being advised to leave too by his England team-mate Paul Robinson. Carson has gone to Germany as England’s third choice keeper behind Robinson and ex-Red David James, and according to the Spurs keeper he’s got a lot of potential. Robinson claims that Carson needs regular football to develop his skills: “Scott Carson will be very good in the next couple of years, but he needs to play games. He is 20 now. Whether that means leaving Liverpool permanently or on loan I don't know, but to further his career and develop as a keeper, he needs to take that step up and play games week in and week out.”

Still dont get what you had against Parry going on Holiday for though, his Social life hardly has anything to do with you does it?

No need to apologise for abusing someone over the Internet, I'm sure I'll live. :)

I was too tired to reply to your orginal points, so I jotted simpler ones into bullet points, then I placed a smile there because you started to swear and call me names under the sun, then Bob has to stick his nose in, as usual. :no

Well I thought Parry would of stayed on at Liverpool HQ to try and see if he and Rafa could tie up some signings before the World Cup, Rafa mentioned he would of liked to have signed some new players before the World Cup, so I thought Parry would delay his holiday and try and get that sorted.

I don't care what Parry does in his spare time or private life, but I want to get these two or three new signings plus the other signed into the Liverpool camp A.S.A.P.

Rafa, Parry & Moores had better not leave it too late for the third summer window in a row and fail to land key players in key areas becoz I for one will not be happy.

I've just looked eveywhere for a link proving I'd quoted Rafa right, but I can't find one, so obviously I didn't.

I know you're new so here's a tip . It might be better to look for a link proving you are right BEFORE you spew a load of bollox about what our manager did or didn't say .  OK ?

:D

You should get off ppl's cases, especially when they have said anything remotely offence to you. You're just another elitist w*nker.

Now you can start being rude.  :p"

When I want to "be rude" as you quaintly put it I won't need the permission of someone who names themself after a band of Manc Wa'nks .As for me being "another elitist w*nker" (lol) , I'd love to know on what you establish this premise . Maybe it's just that you don't like people  (like me) who take f'uck all notice of  people like you .

Considering the response the poster may have received from some of our more volatile members my response to Eddie C's error was nothing more than a mild rebuke with a smile tagged on .

I am no different to any other fan in wanting us to signal our intent for next season, by making 2 or 3 top class signings.

However people need to realise that the legacy of the Houllier years has seriously undermined our ability to compete in the current transfer market.

Houllier made some good signings, but unfortunately lots of very expensive bad ones, on long lucrative contracts with no sell on value whatsoever!!. When you include the fact that he allowed Macca to run down his contract and leave for nothing!!!! He then made the same mistake with Owen.

If you do the maths it's bloody frightening how much this has cost us in the long run.

We so easily could have been another Leeds United!!!.

Despite all of this, Rafa has managed the limited resources at his disposal with a level of expertise and success unseen at Anfield for years.

Five finals, three trophies and a significant improvement in the Premiership.

It doesn’t end there, Rafa has also managed to identify and trim out the dead wood, improve the squad at all levels. Whilst at the same time refusing to bankrupt the club by paying over the odds for players, ensuring that the costly mistakes of the past are not repeated.

In short, whatever happens this summer with regards to transfers, I am confident that Rafa will deliver what we all want in the long term. The Premiership.
