Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Gareth G » Wed Mar 17, 2004 11:34 pm

Im glad to see us getting a damn good win as far as goal's go. I can't say it was a good performance as i didn't see any of the match but on the Liverpoolfc.tv site it say's we played with a verve and style that we so often have lacked this year, however it also say's it was assisted by a wretched display from Portsmouth.

I must say im still not overly happy with Liverpool fc and their way of playing.

No doubt you will get people saying that we have turned the corner again but i sincerely hope we can build on this.

It wasn't bad, we hit the crossbar twice as well and they had some close saves...not sure dudek had to do anything lol

It could have been 6 - 0

I haven't seen Houllier's post match comments but i'm sure for the umpteenth time this season this will be "the turning point of our season".  We'll see.......
I caught the players leaving the pitch on Sky Sports News and, someone correct me if i'm wrong cos it could have been a Pompey player who swapped shirts, but Biscan was walking up the tunnel with a shaved head.  Maybe he's hoping no-one will notice and will stop blaming him for his mistakes!!!!!!

Liverpool fans can also have reason for a double celebration tonight. Not only did the Reds pick up the three points needed to keep them in the title race (mathematically at least), but they also surpassed the 40 point mark to ensure they will be remaining in the Premiership for another season!

From the offical LFC website, lol. This'll get your goat up.
Football is a simple game, all you have to do is pass the ball to a player in a red shirt.

Impressive.

What i've been expecting all season.

Created good chances, put portsmouth under the cosh nearly all match apart from a 5-10 minute spell after half time.

Passing was superb and the chances we created were also.

Dudek, 6
Carragher, 7
Riise, 7
Hyypia, 7
Biscan, 6
Murphy, 6
Gerrard, 6
Hamann, 7
Kewell, 6
Owen, 8
Heskey, 7

Diouf, 6
Cheyrou, 6

Hamann's goal was just awesome, if you haven't seen any replays of that go find one.

The attendance was very low wasn't it? I heard it was just under 35,000. I think that is worrying for the club, although mid week attendances at Anfield can sometimes fall below capacity.

The fact that this was rearranged from a Saturday game may have limited some people with tickets from being able to travel midweek. Not sure that accounts for the 9000 or whatever it was below capacity though.....

I was just happy that we managed to play well, and with some confidence, that's been sadly lacking for some time now.

Oh, and put 3 in the onion bag too, all which were quality finishes.

Didi's was a corker  :)

I am tempted to be optimistic.

But we've been at this point before. Fourth place in our grasp only to lose or draw more games to some s##t teams.

I think the Fourth place struggle is a joke anyway.

Does anyone really think Liverpool have a chance in the CL?

Assuming we get past the qualifying rounds. They may get Real Madrid or AC Milan. They'll be destroyed.

I agree, we are not ready for the CL ,as much as I would love us in it I think some of the bigger sides will humiliate us.
Houllier can't even lead us domestically and I'm not optomistic about the uefa 2nd leg thats coming up. Missing out on CL this time around could be a blessing in disguise. We might at least get rid of that apology of a manager and start to rebuild our club  :)
