Are you people who are considering the sale of Gerrard completely of your trolley's.
We need more quality players like Gerrard, not less.

Have we replaced Micheal Owen ?        Answer 'FOOKIN NO'

And that's one of the reasons why we are not dispatching teams like Monaco and Middlesborough !!

Tunnel vision or what?

Right. Lfc have about £10m to spend IF and i mean IF we do get through the next round of the Champions League.

IF we don't we have about £3m.

IF we don't sign anyone and we qualify, we may have £15m in the summer.

IF we don't qualify we could have about £8m in the summer without going into dept.

SO WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM?? ?? ?? ?? You're a  tool

A profit of say £10m a season WITHOUT SIGNINGS will take us 2-3 years to buy two or three players of the required quality.

Selling most of the current squad, MAY, IF YOU ARE LUCKY get you £10m.

Where as if you sell Gerrard in Janurary you could have a squad capable of winning the league next season and it would all be settled.

I'm all for keeping Gerrard, i'd love him to lead us to glory, but the reality is he may not be able to do that because of the financial situation.

To simply dismiss the idea becaue he's your favourate player shows your lack of insight and knowledge. :)

Sorry Stu,
you are well off beam. Sell Gerrard and you do not replace him with two or three budding Gerradrs for the same price.

Owen has to be the best example of that, Sold for £8m, he would have earned more than £8m for us had he stayed for a season and gone on a free transfer.
Since last season we have signed FOUR new players for a combined fee of £35m or so. What did we get for Owen £8m and a unknown.
Are any of the players that have come in as good as Owen ? Probably not and that is no disrespect to Alonso.
Selling a great player and replacing him with lesser players is the game that Second Rate clubs play. LFC aspire to greater things than that, have some pride Stu !!

I don't think its about pride, looks more like burying your head in the sand to me. Really, the most important person in all this is Stevie himself. If he wants to hang in there for the long haul then the argument is over in my view. If however he is having second thoughts about his summere about-turn then surely it is sensible to consider options and not just sit on our hands a la Owen.
Things are at play here of which none of us are knowledgeable. None of us know the true financial state of the club, if it's really desperate then all options have to be considered. Somebody posted earlier what would we do if somebody offered 100 million? Well I'd sell in a heartbeat. Those who trivialize without venturing a valid argument (Leon for instance) what would you do?

The reason is we couldn't sign any strikers to replace Mickey Owen is that we didn't have enough time to find a replacement for Owen before transfer window closed in August. He left 2 days before the closed.

Mick, if Gerrard, want's to go then that's it. But let's kill this idea that we are talking good business. No we are not.
Gerrards and Owens are not lying around waiting to be discovered. There is nothing else in the Academy bank, there are no cheap Promising cert's, Houllier tried that stunt and blew £50m.
All that's out there are expensive proven players and you do not get three for the price of one!
We need to put all our effort into retaining our stars and developing our club, that's PRIDE and common sense

Stan, in that period we signed four players for circa £35m, none of which are as good as MO. And as I said that's no disrespect to Alonso, or any of theothers for that matter.
The point is you never replace good with better for the same money. The nearest we have been on that one was Keegan and Dalglish and Dalglish cost 50% more than we recieved for Keegan.
