Gerrard - We battled well

Steven Gerrard was delighted to claim three points from Southampton's visit to Anfield.

"It was a battle. Credit to Southampton - they made it hard for us - but three points was the all-important thing," he said after the game.

"Sometimes in this league it's not about playing well - it's about points, and the boys have battled well today and I think we've deserved it.

"It's important to build on results like West Brom and today's we've done that and we need to take this to the Chelsea game aswell."

Another good point..our home form.

I think we have won all our matches except against birmingham & pompey (and we really should have battered them).....

My exact thoughts. I only hope is that Baros and Finnan will be fit for Chelsea.

Hello Guys, really enoyed todays game.  Why, because we won and did not play to our full potential.

I thought we played like champions in that we never really needed to get out of first gear, so no flash stuff yet still hit the bar and post and always seemed in control.

Be interesting to see if we make one or two signings ready for the weekend.

I heard Birmingham are expected to sign someone ready for Saturday so why cant we make a class signing to come of the bench and win the game on his debut!

Begining to look the business and with Evershite loosing we are certainly creaping up on the chasing pack.

Agreed Zara, to win leagues you need to scrape results even if you don't play well cos winning is winning, thats what we did in the treble season

There have been plenty of games where we played better than the opposition but didn't win. i.e. vs Birmingham, vs Portsmouth, vs. Deportivo[leg 1]

I rather take a poor performance with three points than a good performance with one or no points. Football is an ugly game at times.

Instead of comming today he should had watched us beat Olympiakos or Arsenal. Some of our players haven't gotten rid of their bad habbits which is long balls from one box to another and then we end up losing possesion.

my main worry is that in the second half soton made us run and work really hard, we didn't have the ability to just hold the ball and dictate the pace. i'm hoping the players are able to recover in time for the chelski game.

Not really mate, just cos they ain;t in the first team for the current club doesn't mean they can't be great for another club, look at Mikeal Forsell cos he's a great striker but couldn't get in the Chelski side.
