v Charlton Athletic - Upcoming Premiership game

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Thu Jan 27, 2005 11:19 pm

Might be a bit early for this but what the hell.

Team news:
-Kewell is expected to return next week, possible start against Charlton.

-Hyypia is expected to play as he has recovered from his injury

-Didi Hamann will not be able to play as he is suspended after picking up his 5th yellow card.

-Nunez will be suspended until February 2nd therefore he will also miss out the game as well.

My team selection:

                          Carson/Dudek

           Finnan        Carragher     Hyypia   Riise

              Gerrard       Biscan          Kewell

                               Garcia

                 Baros                     Morientes

A must win game even if we are playing in our yellow sh1t kit. Draw would do us no favor as we would still be leveled with Charlton as far as points are concerned and Boro are very unlikely to drop points for the third time in a row.

maybe we should put traore back to left full and put riise in left mid wit kewell behind the front 2 and garcia on the bench. i hate to see riises atacking ability go to waste plus his defence is poor
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,
He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

To even consider Carson at this point is naive.  He still needs to earn the trust of Rafa, the team, and also learn how to communicate and command the back line, and until he fully grasps Rafa's system (which includes the pesky zonal system, which really does work, just has a nasty learning curve)  Till then he'll be sidelined

Carson will warm the bench for a while yet, he's only cover for Jerzy at the moment, not competition

Bit like putting Pelle in against ManU? :(

Yeah, because Rafa has known Pelle for a while he trusts him, and this blind faith ruined our defense.  well thats my opinion.  Pelle was also quoted as saying that one day rafa wants him to be the Captain.

I like the team selection, but I'd change garcia with Gerrard. He's far better than Luis when it comes to the a free role behind the striker.

Pellegrino is going to struggle with the frantic pace and the physical challenges of the EPL players, just like all of the Spanish players at the start of their Anfield career (in fact, some are still struggling - Garcia, Josemi) and playing him against Charlton would be an extreme risk. He'd be ball watching and would somehow fail to pick up an opponent and Charlton needs to only sneak in a goal and the team's heads will go down and with the drought from the attackers, only 1 goal would be enough.

I seriously wonder why Pellegrino was signed in the first place.

I agree with you Ace, Stick Garcia out on the right and leave Gerrard where he has the most impact.

...........................Dudek
          Finnan  Carra   Hyppia   Riise
          Garcia  Hamann Gerrard  Kewell
                     Baros  Morientas

I guess this is the formation rafa will most likely play with...and i kinda of agree (although garcia is playing on the right). If he does not perform bring on smicer for him (he's back right).

We probably wont see Pellegrino when the season is over, I have a feeling he was brought in to work behind closed doors to teach the players and the younguns about this zonal marking, which will be a good idea depending on his english, you can see he has bags of experience something one cant buy.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
