100% of those that bitch about stats are idiots, you're not even arguing with the stats, just bitching about the use of them because you don't like them

I like stats. Stats are used in computer science for instance to make health diagnostics and climate prediction. When you don't have a direct method or algorithm to solve something, and you use massive sample of data, you can use stats to make categories and clusters. Stats are a powerful math tool.
But when used with small samples of data, or ignoring lots of variables that are relevant to the matter it's been discussing, you reach to meaningless stats, such as the one you have written in the quote.
I challenge you to prove me on hindsight that Torres was a great idea for a signing with the numbers of goals of his career before Liverpool. I leave you to fiddle with those numbers, add the cup goals, the assists, whatever you want. I'll even let you counting the penalty goals and friendly goals. Your stats will tell you that Torres was not a world class player. And your stats would tell you that he'd never score this season the amount of goals he has achieved, and they'll tell you he might not be a good signing.
So if you take this exercise and you find that Torres wasn't a good signing looking at the stats of Atletico, then you have to raise some questions about your stats.

Same here but I still hate it when people call me lad or worse kid.
I know some say its a term of endearment in Liverpool but to me it sounds very patronising.
Don't like it, never will.
Many conversations I point it out to the person if they call me lad or kid, annoys the hell out of me.
