I dreamt last night that he came on and scored with his first touch after two minutes.

From the Manchester Evenin News, really respect Stuart Pearce after this.

Stu: Fowler will be Anfield hit
MANCHESTER City boss Stuart Pearce has tipped Robbie Fowler to be an instant success on his return to Liverpool.

The veteran striker stunned the football world by rejoining the Anfield outfit five years after he left for Leeds.

Fowler's desire to rejoin his hometown club was obvious from the look on his face when he arrived back on Merseyside to conclude negotiations on Friday.

And although many believe the former England man to be well past his best, Pearce - despite handing Fowler just one senior start all season - reckons the striker still has something to offer.

"Robbie is a predator and a finisher and I have no doubt he will prove to be a success," said the Blues chief.

"Liverpool tend to have the lion's share of possession in matches and Rafael Benitez has said they do not have a natural finisher, which is exactly what he is.

"You could see he was 10 feet tall when he walked through the door and from his point of view it is a fantastic move."

Approach

Having told Fowler's agent George Scott that he could not guarantee the forward would be offered a new contract at the end of the season, Pearce met the player himself on Friday, by which time Liverpool had made their approach.

The City boss was left with two choices and given Fowler was the highest-paid player in his squad and he could use the £1million saved in wages to spend on reinforcements, the decision was easy.

"I could either let him go or keep him, tell him to carry on doing what he has been, and then put him on the bench," said Pearce.

"I wouldn't say it was a no-brainer but it has worked well for both parties.

"In truth, given Robbie's history, I could not look him in the eye and deny him the opportunity he had been given while the deal also freed up some cash for me to bring players in."

Made up with Stuart Pearce for that. I'll have to by him a pint next time we play City. :)

model example of the type of british character that makes the english game such compulsive viewing. WYSIWYG with Stuart Pearce and you have to admire him. It'd be a crime if he doesn't get to manage England at some point in his career.

Fowler to score in final? You bet

BOOKMAKERS Paddy Power have been quick to try and cash in on the euphoria surrounding Robbie Fowler's surprising return to Liverpool by offering a series of novelty bets.

Fowler, who scored four goals in his last three games for Manchester City, was offered at 20/1 to finish as the Premiership's top scorer and by yesterday afternoon that had been reduced to 11/1.

Other bets include 5/2 on Fowler outscoring Peter Crouch, 16/1 to score in the Champions League final and 16/1 on him making England's World Cup squad.

With Fowler set to make his second debut at Anfield against Birmingham on Wednesday, he is 10/1 to score at the Kop End and unveil a t-shirt saying 'I'm Back'. :D

Fowler desperate for Liverpool return.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has revealed Robbie Fowler was "desperate" to return to Anfield.

In a shock move, Fowler signed a short-term deal until the end of the season on Friday after spending more than four years away - initially 14 months with Leeds before three years with Manchester City.

"I've never known a transfer happen quite so quickly," said Parry, on BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme. "It was all done within 24 hours, and that was largely because of Robbie's passion to rejoin the club. He really was that desperate to come back."

"I had to persuade Robbie to look at the contract," he added. "I think I could have put a contract in front of him with no money on it and he would have signed it!

"I've never seen quite such enthusiasm as Robbie showed."

Despite Liverpool's success this season - the club are third in the Premiership table and through to the last 16 of the Champions League - manager Rafael Benitez's side have found goals hard to come by.

Even though Fowler has struggled at City, Parry is hoping the 30-year-old can solve the problem.

"We hope this is the spark for his career, certainly on Robbie's part there is no lack of motivation," added Parry. "We hope it works out, and he hopes for sure it works out.

"Again, as a measure of his desire, the idea of coming short-term was no factor at all. No problem.

"The point to stress is that first and foremost this was a football decision, and it was Rafa's judgment he would strengthen the team."

:D says it all really the lad would have played for us without money, lets face it he doesnt need it he's the 2nd richest footballer in England. Legend.
