The prem, champions league and fa cup - Your predictions

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

With Benfica looming, and the club very much active on three fronts, what do you reckon we're going to have to look back on at the end of the season?

Premiership

Well, obviously Chelsea have all but won it. For us, at the very least, third looks safe. We've got 10 points over a dodgy and very inconsistent Arsenal, and 5 over a promising but not-quite-there Spurs who've played a game more. Those two will be more interested in getting fourth than third.

12 games to go, half of them at home, and I think second place is very, very much obtainable. Man U have 3 points on us, but I can see them dropping a hell of a lot between now and the end of the season - they definitely have a tougher run in than we do (they have Chelsea, Spurs and Bolton away still to come, as well as Arsenal at home).

So long as we avoid more defeats like the Charlton game, I think we'll get there with points to spare. For us, Arsenal away could be a big indication of how things will turn out. Winning there would be huge.

Prediction - 2nd, approx 12 points adrift of Chelsea.

-----

Champions League

Well, after last season I certainly wouldn't back against us. Over two legs I think we can beat anybody, and although there are still dangerous sides - particularly Barcelona, who are rightly favourites - still in the competition, I think there's at least a couple of ties still to be played.

And I just have that feeling that a showdown with Gerard Houllier and Lyon is somewhere ahead of us. How up for it would a fit-and-raring Robbie Fowler be for that one?

If we beat Benfica and avoid Barcelona in the draw, I don't think anyone will stop us reaching the last 4.

Prediction - semis.

-----

FA Cup

I think Rafa wants this trophy quite badly. I hadn't even realised we were at the quarter final stage until the draw earlier today.

Birmingham away won't be easy, but I back us to turn them over much like we swatted away Pompey after a sluggish start.

It's Prem sides all the way now, and Bolton or West Ham (whoever wins their replay) would be a handful. Middlesbrough too have turned heads since they beat Chelsea in the Prem.

Chelsea are obviously still knocking around, and they'll take some stopping - definitely more so than in a two-legged Champions League tie. Take Chelsea out of the draw, and I think it'd be set-up for us to win outright. With them still in, I think we're destined to meet them either in the semis or the final.

LFC/Chelsea would be a great final this year, and if we can avoid them in the draw I back us to make it to Wembley/Cardiff (delete as applicable).

Prediction - as far as Chelsea, preferably one step further.  :D

-----

2nd in the Prem, a CL semi final and an FA Cup final would represent a good season for me.

Some silverware would be great, though, and - bizarrely - the Champions League could be our best chance of it again this year. It's going to be interesting.

Your thoughts?

Premiership - 2nd place- got a much easier run in than Man Utd and we are looking solid.

F.A Cup - Final Against Chelsea - Draw - We win on Peno's

Champions League - Win It Again!!

I know I might sound like an extremely optimistic fan lol - but we have 3 1-0 wins on the bounce again now and I reckon we going on to another little run. We have performed very consistantly this season. Home and Away in Champions League - we are the strongest team.

There's ponderables on the imponderables and it's all pure guesswork as despite the fact we have unquestionably improved this season, we still have it in us to produce the odd freak result and self-destruct.
My hunch is that we will finish second in the Prem as I believe we are in the final death throes of Fergusons tenure as manager. They have a hopelessly imbalanced squad right now and I think they are far from certainties to take care of Wigan in the Carling Cup final. Failure to prevail there and the realisation that they are in yet another season without a trophy, allied to the barely stifled guffaws of laughter from around the football world could see them implode before the seasons end. In this instance I would expect Ferguson to be gone before the start of next season.
In the Champions League I'm actually not as confident as most and think we will have to play very well to beat Benfica. They are more than capable of turning us over at their place and while I'd take a 1-0 defeat, it only takes a late goal making it 2-0 to put you almost out of the tournament. Obviously a draw or a win for us would make us strong favourites and rightly so but I think it will be tough. My suspicion is that it will take an extra-time winner at Anfield for us to prevail and my hunch is that God will provide it. Aftert hat, a lot depends on the draw but I have a feeling without any real solid foundation to back it up that we will be unsuccessful finalists on this occasion.
In the FA cup I think we will progress to the final, where we will deny Chelsea the chance of winning the double in a tight match. Obviously, ask me the same question next week and I'd give you a totally different answer.

Watch Liverpool thump Man City 3-0 in Cardiff ,with Gerrard scoring a spectacular 30 yarder past the floundering James.Get home Sunday, spend a little time with the wife and kids and head off to Paris Tuesday, where Robbie Fowler secures his place forever in Anfield folklore with the winner in a 3-2 victory over Barcelona.

PREMIERSHIP

Think we can sneak 2nd, really do, got a feeling it'll go down to the wire and we'll get it on the last day. Utd are too weak in a lot of areas, whereas if/when our strikers start banging a few in, we'll be strong everywhere.

Prediction - 2nd, about 12-14 points adrift.

FA CUP

Winners, I've said from the start, got a feeling our name's on the cup, and I think we'll come out on top in a Liverpool/Rent Boys finale, with a 95th minute Steve G scorcher. He then proceeds to run over to Maureen and give him 5 fingers.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Depends on a lot of things. The draw being the obvious one, and then silly things like injuries/suspensions etc. If we do get lucky, we seriously can win the thing again, just don't wanna speak to soon thought, as we've got a tricky trip to Lisbon tomorrow.
