Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

listen if roy has come out and said hes not involved in talks with nando and purslow is. Its suggests to me the owners want rid. And with purslow being a chelsea supporter.maybe nando knew the owners wanted to sell him thats why hes kicking up a fuss. Anyone agree?

I've got no idea what is going on between Purslow and Torres (and neither has anyone else on here), but our star striker could put it all to bed with one statement. I know it's fashionable and makes you popular if you blame absolutely everything on Purslow, but come on guys lets get real for a second. Yes there is a possibility that Torres is being sold against his will, but equally there are numerous other possibilities as well. For all we know he might think Hodgson's a c... (I don't think that is the case but how the feck do we know). What we do know categorically is that the player has yet to publically show his hand (and no wearing a scarf doesn't do that).

It may well be Purslow, but it may well be not Purslow. Nobody on here knows, we're all just guessing.

If we're not careful, we're going to collectively develop a "fecking Parry" mentality, where the same person is blamed for letting players go, us buying 20 million pound players, and for us missing out on anyone over the last five years who turned out to be any good.

Some possible scenarios:

Torres has asked for a wage rise and Purslow is negotiating.

Torres hates Hodgsons guts and doesn't want to play for him.

Torres wants assurances that money will be spent, Purslow is trying to slimeball out of it.

Torres wants to get to number one choice for Spain again, and sees a move elsewhere as giving him more chance to achieve that.

Purslow and the board want to sell Torres against his will.

Torres wants to bring his kids up in Spain.

Torres wants Champions League football and doesn't think he'll get it with us unless we spend big. Purslow is slimeballing.

Torres is genuinely nonplussed what all the fuss is about. He put the scarf on when they won the World Cup and considered that proof enough. Him and Purslow and playing golf every day and laughing about the press.

There's probably hundreds more, take your pick.

What now?

I guess what your saying Reg is , Purslow might be saying if you stay it will probably become a poison chalice for the Club and its fans ....

I can understand Torres wanting assurances. But at the end of the day theyre only words. He needs to make up his mind whether he wants to be a part of the future of LFC or not. Pronto

But Carragher believes, after the signing of fellow England international Joe Cole and the arrival of new manager Roy Hodgson, Liverpool’s star pair will be around to help them recover from their disappointing seventh-placed finish last season.

"There’s been a lot of negativity and it’s been like that for a while," said the centre-back.

"I’m sure that Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will still be involved at the club next season.

"If they are, then the aim for Liverpool must be to get back into the Champions League."

The 32-year-old added in ZOO magazine: "Liverpool aren’t a club like Real Madrid, who can just throw £100million at it if we don’t win the title.

"For clubs like Real Madrid and Inter Milan, it’s a disaster if they don’t win the league, so they go out and spend big money on new players.

"Liverpool can’t do that - we have to build. Next season, rather than thinking too much about the title, we have to concentrate on getting back into the top four.

"It’s a rebuilding process again and hopefully we can get ourselves right up there."

Still wouldnt do it though... Torres is exactly the sort of player who could transform a side like MaCity to a club that dominates for years and years... Fck the money, hold onto him for another year and if the ownership situation is resolved then we can be in a better situation than they are regardless of the signings they make...

What he said.

Torres is comfortably the most loved player at Anfield, with the potential become as popular as god in his heyday. He brings more to this club than just his talent. People talk about Gerrard being the talisman for Liverpool Football Club and they're right, but Torres galvanises our fan base and for me/most, we have to keep him during this interim period before new ownership comes in. I wish the club would stop pussy footing around as if this is all down to his decision. The lad signed a new contract 12 months ago. Just announce to the world in no uncertain terms that the player is not for sale.

How many of these scenarios stack up against the manager claiming there's nothing more he can do to keep Torres and the player has a 'beef' with LFC?

I make it five out of eight. I'm not sure what your point is though.
