I am certain that it is Benfica trying to bump up the price again.

Like many have said, i am not even sure he is worth the 8 million quoted initially anyway.

You have the right to think that, of course. But you've got to understand something:

1) A lot of players (mostly from South America) use the Benfica name to get into the Portuguese league, or to get in a big brazilian club. Saying Benfica is interested when we are not, just to bump the price. So we know what that is, how imoral it is, and know not to do to others.

2) Simao is our star player. Our captain. Tiago went to chelsea 2 years ago for 10 million euros. Miguel went to valencia last summer for 8 million euros. And both of them didn't have half the value that Simao has. So, around the 20 million mark is the ONLY price Benfica will even consider selling. And that's only because we need the money. Benfica is not trying to play games, just play fair. It's the price we think he's worth, expecially in January with the CL and the WC to come.

That said, I hope you do get Simao (next summer). Since Liverpool is my 'english team' and hope you the best (except in the next CL game   :;): ) I want a win-win situation for both clubs. But if Liverpool doesn't think he's worth it than stop making bids.

Cheers,

Mate i know you are coming on here and being friendly just giving us advice and i thank you for that, but if you think anyone will pay 20 million for Simao you are mistaken imo.
Tiago might of went for 10 million, but that was when Mourinho had just took over at Chelsea and they were paying double what every player was worth.
Chelsea might still be doing that but they already have Robben Duff Joe Cole and S wright-Phillips as wingers, there is no way imo that they will pay even 15 million for Simao.

cannot see thistransfer hapening now, benfica seem to be holding out for far too much money and rafa will switch his attentions elsewhere.  He will not get dragged into paying too much for a player who has not proved himself on the big stages of football.

Maybe Stevie will be playin' on the right more often now if we dont get a right winger in this window. Theres always Summer to get Simao but like Sparky said, i dont see Rafa gettin' dragged into it more. He'll turn his intentions somewhere else i should think.

Aimar isn't a central midfielder or right sided midfielder. Infact he isn't a striker either, so what would be the point of that?

To take Stevies place in the centre so he can stay on the right. You cant say that he looks out of place there and its not like his goal ratio has been affected by him playing on the wing has it ?

I really dont see your point stu. Amiar is a cantral midfielder who cometimes operates down the left. Infact he can use both feet. We were supposed to get him last year but Valencias vauation was way of. Hasnt figured much this year. Not sure if hes injured or what but he wasnt playing last time i saw them play.

He is not a central or left sided midfielder by any stretch of the imagination.

He plays in the hole behind the striker in a 4-5-1 formation. That is the only position he's suited to playing.

Have you ever seen the lad play? ??? By the sounds of it you clearly haven't, he's about 5'7 and physical attributes aren't his strong points.

I say we revert to three in the midfeild and advance the right and left backs, Finnal obviously has class and can put a ball in the middle, Risse, same deal, Warnock and Traore are a bit pants in the attack, but Kromkamp is an attacker as well, Gerrard and Alonso to feed the strikers and Sissoko to clean up the mess behind them if need be. Simao isn't worth more then 10 million pounds, I would rather stick with a new system then waste money on some lad who has not once expressed interest in Liverpool.

Actually ive sen him place 3 times in person. I have a lot of friends in Spain and have watched a few matches over the years. And i dont really see how you can judge his physical attributes based on hsi size. Romario was a midget but did you ever think he wasnt strong. Michael Owen was another short person but hes very strong in his physical play.
