Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Of the teams that look like they might go down, which players would you take...

Watford - Maybe Young before he went to Villa, after that I cant see anyone.

Man City - Dunne has been playing really well but for us........no! After that Steven Ireland looks a good prospect and the guy called Hamann looks okay  :eyebrow

Fulham - Maybe Rosenior, we will see

Charlton - Bent would be a good signing IMO he looks the part but he is English so he would cost a lot. After that maybe Thomas but maybe not

Everton -  :oh:  On your bike!   :rasp

Aston Villa - Again maybe Luke Young but so far he hasn't done much at Villa. Agbonlahor and Sorensen are good and maybe the guy called Berger.

Middlesbrough - Woodgate, Downing, Yakubu.   No thank you.

Sheffield Utd - All the best

Wigan - Heskey?

Ashton and Tevez. Woodgate would definitely be worth a look also, he's a top quality centre half and would have no trouble adapting to a big club like ours or the Premiership of course.

How many of thsoe players would actually improve our FIRST TEAM though?

Tevez and Ashton would (provided Ashton gets back to full fitness and form) and Gareth Barry would be better than any left midfielder we have currently (he shoudl be playing for England IMO). Woodgate probably would as well, hes more accomplished defensively than Agger at this stage of his career IMO. Agger is better on the ball going forward.

The rest? No thanks.

I'd take Micah Richards, he's going to be a star.

Other players I'd consider:

Joey Barton - I think we need another central midfielder in the squad who's a bit more attack-minded.  His temperament's the problem still.

Tevez - playing in a side like ours he'd be excellent I think.  Look how much better Mascherano looks in our side compared to West Ham.  That was the wrong club for those two, but they're both quality.

Bent - He's quick and is a proven goalscorer in the premiership.  Not much else to his game though, if the price was right I'd take him but I'd expect they'd want far more than he's worth.

Ashton and Woodgate are players I also like.  I'd like to see what Ashton's like after that injury first though - it was a bad one and he's been struggling to make a comeback from it.  Everyone knows about Woodgate's injuries, my reservations lie in the fact that you can't rely on him being fit for a season and central defence is an area where you need stability imo.

It's a no from me for the likes of Downing, Young, Benayoun, Yakubu etc

Ah Richards, forgot him. Yeh he looks like one for the future thats for sure. Joey Barton is a good player, underrated IMO. I don't think we'd ever look at him considering we have so many good central midfiedlers at the club now, I take your point about needing more attacking minded midfielders. If Gerrard ever got injured for a long amount of time (god forbid) we'd really lack a goal threat from central midfield. It's a shame we're still reliant on him so much, but he's that good. The best scouser ever perhaps?

Bent would be overpriced, and is on a simialr level to Bellamy IMO. Woudln't bother TBH. Tevez is an amzing player and woudl be a cracking signing. I liek his attitude too, he seems committed to the West Ham cause which is admirbale and seems to love his football. I've read articles on him in the past and this seemed to come through in them, he's just another South american kid who loves football. Would absolutely love to see him here, but I fear Chelsea will be knocking on the door in the summer, or perhaps a big side from Italy or Spain.

I agree about Tevez, he could be an absolute star in the premiership if he was with a big club like ours.  Trouble is, our priority this summer will be an out-and-out goalscorer and I don't think Tevez fits the bill.  He's more of a second striker, likes to come from deep - the way Rooney likes to play is the best comparison I can think of.

Tevez wouldn't come cheap and I don't think Benitez would splash the cash considering we'd still need to spend big on an out-and-out goalscorer on top of that.

I still don't completely understand who owns Tevez at the moment come to think of it.  Or Mascherano for that matter.  Is Mascherano on loan to us or did we buy him?  If someone could clear that up I'd appreciate it.

From the relegation threatened sides, only Woodgate, Richards, Tevez, Ashton are of Liverpool quality, whether we will sign or need any of these is debabatable though. Bent and Yakubu are good strikers that score goals, but im not sure if there what we need as they dont have much of an all round game, and rely heavily on pace, also they would be very over priced.

IMO i wouldnt mind having Tevez or Ashton instead of Bellamy, and we could get a decent price for Ashton if West Ham go down, and he stays injured and dosnt play for England before next season.
