Gonzalez signed today but wont be ready to play till next season, I really think we need some firepower but that dosent look likely until January.

Maybe if Crouch gets one the rest will flow!  (hopefully)

crouch looks very unlikely to score, i tip morientes over him, crouch has a very bad off ball ability, no instincts to get into dangerous positions unlike morientes who is getting chances even if he's no on form

Apparently its not Rafa fault:

Steven Gerrard reflected on Liverpool's poor performance at Crystal Palace last night and declared: "We all owe the fans an apology."
Gerrard netted his 50th goal for the Reds during the 2-1 defeat at Selhurst Park, but that statistic came as no consolation to the Reds' skipper who admitted the overall performance wasn't good enough for the club.

"That kind of performance is just not acceptable for Liverpool Football Club," he said.

"A lot of our fans have paid a lot of money to see that and what they saw just wasn't good enough. We've got to say sorry to them for that.

"People can go on about the first half chances all they like, but that's not enough for us. We've got to perform for 90 minutes.

"There's got to be a big reaction to this now. We've all got to play for the shirt and show how much it means to play for this club.

"It's the players who have to accept responsibility in this situation. We have to take the blame."

I don't like threads that suggest that sell 3 or 4 players will sort out all the problems. . What about all the get rid of Diouf Diaou Smicer and Cheyrou threads? Our problems were all their fault. Now we find that with the exception of Diaou (naturally) they are all doing well at other clubs. Instead we have Crouch, Zendon, Josemi. That said.........
Hope that Rafa stays...given time I think he will sort things out and do very well. I also think that Morientes will improve a lot. But I must say that I was shocked at the Crouch purchase (-£2 million maybe not £7 million) the Timmy on stilts comment ho ho ho].

i suppose if push comes to shove we could always use Crouch as a corner flag,a bloody expensive one at 7million though

The supprising thing is that we know the team is capable of winning against the likes of Birmingham, Crystal Palace, et al. Just look at the performances in the CL.  They just need to start playing with the same level of determination, commitment and pride in the EPL.

Maybe now that Stevie has come out and criticised the team's level of commitment, they will see the light and start playing well.

Glad you pointed that out Phil, I was about to start a thread on this.

Ok I am not happy with the team right now, they are not responding to Benitez's constant tinkering of tactics and personnel and personally I think Benitez doesn't know his best side, doesn't know his best formation and doesn't know how to motivate his team in the premiership.  Is his man-management lacking when our backs are to the wall here?  I suspect so.  But should we sack him?  Don't be fu.cking stupid.  He has a lot of work to do but he is a smart guy and eventually he will build a winning team and crack the prem.

Are fans wrong to call for his head?  Yes.  But are we right to voice our concerns about the performances right now?  Damn right.  You can take all the praise you like from fans for winning in Europe, but when you're getting it wrong in the league then you have to take the criticism too.  It is our job as fans to tell him to get his finger out and do something about it.

But if fans push him too far and Madrid come calling again, would he go?  I'd hope not, but I wouldn't be 100% sure he'd stay.  So be careful what you wish for guys.

The thing that really concerns me is the fact I know if everton had signed Sissoko I would be watchin their games thinking "feck me, he looks good, why could'nt we have got him" or say Alonso had signed for man u, i'd be thinkin" look at this guy spreading the ball round the pitch, why could'nt we attract him". It must be one or both of these things,
a; there is a deep rooted physcological issue amongst the collective set of players, which must be dealt with by a mature & not 'wantaway' captain on the pitch, also a confidence instilling management setup off the pitch.
b; a serious lack of quality in too many areas of the pitch which is detrimental to team play ie 1 guy not expecting the correct through ball having seen too many miss-placed passes therefore giving up on the incisive run for fear of wasted effort.
I must admit I have been possibly a little hasty in my view that Rafa is failing, however, upon reflection he may well be the type of character required to rectify these pretty obvious problems. It is feasable.

I certainly hope that Rafa has what it takes to turn things around, IMO he does. I must also agree with john here that we must be careful for what we wish for as Real just got spanked by Depotivo tonight and may try to come calling sooner rather than later for Rafas services, and god forbid where would we be then? He needs time, resources, and the faith and support of the fans. He appears to have the know how if it only seems to show in the CL at the moment but I'm sure he'll crack the PL................ I hope!

Let's support the manager and the team.  But it must be frustrating for everyone.  It seems like Gerrard is always scoring the equalizer but we cant play inspired and go ahead.  Instead, the opposition does the damage.  Our CL performances have been great but domestically, it hasn't been anywhere near impressive.

I think the team needs a lift.  One good match and we could get this turned around.  Hopefully, Rafa has an answer.
