Predict the match against olympiakos

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby anfieldadorer » Tue Sep 28, 2004 1:17 pm

2-0, Baros and Garcia to score  :)
It will be a match of two different types of style yet both are class, Liverpool will dominate the game but, typically so far, will find it not to be very easy to get the ball slotted into the net. Xabi will sustain his elegant and brillian performance. Garcia will be die-hard and steal the opponents' attention, backfour will focus on the threatening Rivaldo. The fight will mostly occur in the mid.
Sounds too optimistic? your opinion?

------------------------------------------
LIVERPOOL and Olympiakos have met before in the 2000-1 Champions League when Olympiakos recorded a 2-2 home draw only to lose the return match at Anfield 2-0.

* The Greeks have only recorded one home win in five matches against English opposition. This sole victory came against Tottenham Hotspur in the 1972-3 UEFA Cup, when they won 1-0.

* Liverpool have visited Greek sides on three occasions, winning twice and drawing once.

* The two away wins came against AEK Athens in the 1972-3 UEFA Cup (3-1) and againstPanathinaikos in the 1984-5 Champions Cup (1-0).

* Overall, Liverpool have an unbeaten record against Greek sides in European competitions with five wins and one draw.

* The Greeks have a negative overall record against English sides, with one win, two draws and seven defeats.

* The Greek side has lost its last five matches against clubs from England.

olympiakos have an impressive home record so i'd take a draw now. however we have to start keeping clesn sheets away from home and this would be a good place to start.

1-0 baros

p.s. even if baros scores there's bound to be another hundred threads tomorrow arguing whether baros has "got what it takes or not".

im hoping we can win but our away form hasnt been the best recently.
I do think we are well equipped for the CL this year tho, maybe more so than the other prem teams but this should be anice little tester. A clean sheet would be good but im gonna go 3-1 us

I remember Liverpool gave Olympiakos an absolute roasting in the 2-2 draw and I still, to this day, don't understand how they managed to draw level.

I think the 2-2 game was also one of the last (if not the last) games Steve Staunton played for us.
