Pongolle

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Pongolle has improved tremendously imo this season. In every game he plays in he makes some sort of impact. He's developing into a more mature player and I think he can turn out to be a good player for us.

However with the Morientes and Baros partnership up front he won't really start as a striker anylonger so why not try to play him as a right winger for the time being? He played in that position against Arsenal and did fairly well so it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

He did amazing against Southampton and you noticed it as soon as he came on, his impressed me this season but we need the team to all be playing well before our situation gets out of hand, we are now on joint points as charlton & middlesbrough.............

Worth a try, certainly we need someone to put the ball in the air for Morientes as thats where he's at his most dangerous. As things stand, until Nunes or Kewell get back we seem unable to cross a ball, and Pongo did at least try to run for us at Soton. I personally believe Pongo's got a future as a Liverpool player, even if for the time being it's as a sub. Let's face it, that never harmed David Fairclough!!

Shame to see no-one championing Neil Mellor's case much. I know he aint got Pongo's stamina and stuff but he's gonna be remembered for a while if only for that strike 8 seconds from time against the Arsenal. I think Sheff Utd will come back for him, if not now then the end of the season.

Question tho.... If Cisse does come back, and Baros doesn't leave - as some threads seem to suggest he will - where's that gonna leave Pongolle? Cisse spent a little time on the wing before his injury, and I don't see him warmin the bench before Pongo if and when he regains full fitness.
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

I would play Pongolle on the wing for now rather than Garcia, I think Cisse is our answer there though.  Before he got injured he showed he had great pace and crossed a mean ball.

Henry wasn't a winger either but he played as one and it made him a better player. Cisse has the pace and the skill to play as a winger, he could play there until he adapts to the English League.

I was thinking more of Baros & Morientes up front with Cisse on the right, this would accomadate all three, especially at Anfield.  This would give us 3 goal scorers on the pitch at one time.

What happened to playing Garcia behind the striker[s]?

Not a big fan of Garcia, I would rather have Stevie G joining the strikers when he can.  Aimar would be good!
