He always plays well against City. I really hope his back by then, we need him injury free now.

He'll probably be way off the pace during the City game but it will be good just to have him back.

Yup that also means if he does go to Barca its going to be a ridiculous sum.

Bah... contracts have little value in Football... lets look at our most recent world class player to leave to those Catalonian vultures:  :glare:

suarez-resigns-with-liverpool-for-73m - 2013

''When you extend your contract, you extend it because you want to stay here for the future,'' Suarez said. ''I signed not only for 2½ more years, but I signed for a long time to stay here and I am so happy.

''When you are happy, you try everything for the best for the future. I spoke a lot with my family because my family are very important to me and they are happy here.

''We spoke over the last few weeks with the club and everything is OK. I don't have a problem; the club don't have a problem, so it's very good.

''I am delighted to have agreed a new deal with Liverpool and have my future secured for the long term.

''We have some great players and the team is growing and improving all the time.''

A few months later....

Then soon after...

Not saying Coutinho will bite his way out but I'm not falling for that "I'm happy here...blah blah blah" trick again. Heard it all too often. When Barcelona or Madrid call Latinos go weak in the knees and their agents are frothing are at the mouth...

I secretly hope that Coutinhos inconsistencies remain so he is overlooked and we keep him longer....because once he is the complete player 100% of the time... he will be gone. If we manage to keep him to age 26 I'd be amazed at his rate of development!

Coutinho's long term signature could be perceived as an assurance from him and the club that he wont be leaving on a free anytime sooner. He will hold his value well assuming he wishes to leave, or is put up for sale.

His got no clauses to his contract like Suarez did. I think extending the contract main reason is that we can coup a large amount of money if Couts is sold.
Plenty of profit for the moneyball owners, smart move.

To reinvest in replacing him as best as possible. No ne wants to lose him but if he has to go then let's max his value.

Let's be realistic lads.  :buttrock

Good job! But if he's sold in the summer, I'd be ***** with the owners and know what they are about ridiculous amount or not! We can't be a selling club! And we can't be a champions league club without winning anything either!

so pleased coutinho going to be with us for a few years. dont think we will sell him just to make a killing. we are not going to do a suarez. for one coutinho is not suarez. he is his own man.

Thought his deal would kick in straight away after he put pen to paper but it won't come into effect till the 1st of july. Still at least it secures his services for next season which is a relief to have that out of the way now.
In terms of the deal itself it was the right thing to do as he was lagging behind others in the pay scale even though he is our most important player. Hopefully we will go one better in july and make him captain.

He has been bad since he came back from injury, but yesterday was the worst Ive ever seen him. I dont know what the answer is, but he needs to watch some videos of Hazard to see how and attacking midfielder plays.
Clueless!
