Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

something isnt right here, i thought the stadium going to be its full capacity when built this time, they said it would save money to finish now because of the cost of adding to it in the future.

unless they plan to finish the stadium but not put all the seats in till transport is sorted out

Someone should produce large inflatable spades so LFC fans can take them to every match until work begins on the new stadium.

read below

heres a possible answer.... "FUTURE PROOFING"

the council has allowed for future capacity increases - thank god for that !!!!

Liverpool's revised plans for a new stadium have been approved by the city council.

The Reds have already had two previous applications sanctioned, before being forced to make alterations to the designs.

However, their latest plans for a 60,000-seater replacement for Anfield across Stanley Park have been unanimously approved.

The club had hoped to build a 71,000-seater arena, but the council said "future proofing" had been built into Tuesday's decision.

Despite the approval of the smaller stadium coming as good news, the capacity could be reduced further to 45,000 should traffic management issues fail to be resolved.

The club's controversial owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett had ordered a wholescale redesign of the original proposals on their arrival at the club, and saw them subsequently approved.

The American tycoons then decided that the plans were too expensive and had Dallas-based architects HKS redraw the plans earlier this year.

The new scheme contains a number of minor alterations, with a smaller underground car park and a reduced height being the most notable.

Having granted permission to the Red half of the city to begin work on their new home, Liverpool city council are set to reconvene at the end of June to discuss Everton's proposals.

Minimum should be 70,000, then room to expand.

60,000 is bigger than Anfield's current capacity, as long as it can be expanded to 70,000-80,000 or more then I'd rather they got started. Let's get the bl**dy thing going, delaying it over whether it holds as many as people think it should is daft. 60,000+ and expandable is the only requirement to get going, if it were only a few thousand more than current capacity then I would be worried

We need 80,000 so we might as well bite the bullet now. It will not be easy to expand later, much easier to do it now.

if this bit about 'reducing it to 45,000 if traffic issues are unresolved' is true then its a crazy idea and should be refused point blank. there's not much point in getting into millions and millions of debt by building a ground with more or less the same capacity as anfield. 70,000 minimum or stay put until some fecker comes along who actually has the balls and the money to make it happen.

Spending 350M on a new stadium with about 500 more seats than what we presently have would be the worst financial decision taken since Gerald Ratner.

apparently though, legal conditions surrounding the use of the site on the grounds of the park demands that the stadium includes an aviary and some swings.

you'd think there would be some LFC fans on these councils wouldn't you? I mean jeezus Christ this is crazy, its bad enough that there is the whole ownership thing, we don't need all of this city nagging stuff to bring it down. So what it the infustructure can't handle 10,000 people, think of the economic impact all the extra match day goers will have on the surrounding area

BULLSHIT ALERT!!

Tom Hicks: Work on new Liverpool stadium to start in September

May 12 2008

Liverpool Daily Post

LIVERPOOL CO-OWNER Tom Hicks last night said building working on Liverpool's new stadium will begin in the autumn.

The 60,000-capacity development was given planning permission last week, but doubts have been raised about the club's ability to fund the £350m project while the power battle between co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett continues.

But Hicks last night said: "Site work starts in September and construction in late October or early November.

"Completion will still be in time for August 2011."

Hicks is also sure he will be able to raise funds to buy Gillett's share of the club to kill off interest from investors DIC.

Gillett is believed to prefer selling to Dubai consortium DIC. At the same time, a fans-buyout continues to gather momentum.

As far as the stadium is concerned, the Daily Post understands an initial £60m would allow the club to start land and preparatory works for the stadium, and see the scheme through to the end of the year.

A statement on LFC’s website after planning permission was granted last week said: “The club is committed to take the stadium project forward and start on site as soon as possible and aim for an opening for the 2011/12 season.”

Bullshit Source!!

I'll eat my hat if there are any foundations started before the end of this year!! :;):

Lads, it is no conincedence that Old Trafford is the venue of the UEFA Cup Final this week, as it was for the final of the CL a few years back and international matches. It is a first class, world standard stadium.

If we build a 60,000 seater (lets not even consider a single seat less...) then we will forever live in its shadow and will not get the big games and international exposure - as Speke lives in the shadow of Machester airport.

Old Trafford is a stadium of bolt-on extensions whereas we have the chance to build a 70-75,000 brand new, futuristic design which would be one of, if not the best in the country and would attract and deserve the big european finals, internationals and be a World Cup venue.

If we compromise now becuase we couldnt wait 6 months to get the yanks out, we will regret it forever.

Put the new stadium on hold until we sort out the ownership.
