Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby tubby » Tue Feb 08, 2011 12:11 am

Im happy with what they have done so far but ill reserve my full praise for them when 2 things happen

1) we see the extent of our rebuilding in the summer and
2) we see any new/re developed stadium plans actually come to fruition

All things aside though I can't have much to complain.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

There's not a lot to complain about so far. I would have quite like to see other areas focused on in January but a certain former player of ours threw a massive spanner in the works four days before the window shut so I'll not go on too much about that but what I will say is that deadline day was one of the best we've had in a long long time. Liverpool spending money and doing big business on the last day of the January transfer window had this whole forum in pandemonium and it was really great to see.

Though they didn't spend too much of their own money so in terms of investment I think the summer is the key time you'll get to really see what they're made of. It's probably around that time something about the stadium will be said and when kenny will get the job

All in all they've been great so far and I'm happy to welcome them to Anfield anytime - very exciting summer ahead for all of us, let's hope we don't end up disappointed :)

Go back 12 months think about it. Then realise how things have changed. This is a really defining moment in the history of LFC. My gut feeling is this is the begining of a new era. Like kenny said football as a game on the pitch has never changed.

Cracking article on the breakdown of Premier League club finances.

Liverpool, despite our poor league performances for the last two seasons still compete on a revenue level with the top teams in Europe and the Premier League -

Image

We are still in the top 4 revenue earners in the league -

This is key for the future as UEFA's financial fair play rules being introduced in 2015, but effective from this summer, heavily favour clubs who have a large revenue base.

Most importantly is the Match Day Revenue chart that exposes the reason for the gap between us and the other top earners in the league (Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal).

The earning potential we have if we can increase seat count is massive. A larger stadium essentially puts us joint top with Man Utd in terms of total revenue, but with significantly far less debt.

our last owners, for all their flaws, and there were many, did actually increase our revenue and negetiate some good sponsorship deals.

How do Chelsea make so much money on matchdays? They have a smaller stadium than us!

I would imagine the fact that they charge roughly 50% more for a ticket than we do. That combined with their corporate seat offerings.

I'm surprised at Arsenal's situation tbh. The most expensive tickets in the league and they are still not making as much as people thought they were

Due to the high price of oil plastic has become expensive.  Imagine how much you would get for a stadium full of plastic :D

love the quotes from Henry and Comolli.

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli believes Fernando Torres' £50 million departure has made the club a happier place as the striker "didn't want to be here" towards the end of his Anfield career.

Chelsea smashed the British transfer record to take Torres to Stamford Bridge in January, after the Spain international handed in a transfer request and publicly stated his desire to leave the Reds.

The actions in the lead up to his move and subsequent snipes at his former employers - when he claimed: "there are more personal relationships and jokes between the players than there were at Liverpool" - angered many at Anfield, but Comolli insists that Kenny Dalglish's side are better off without Torres.

And the former Tottenham director of football feels sure that Liverpool's January business - selling Torres and signing Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll for a combined £57.8 million outlay - has improved the atmosphere at the club.

"Getting two players triggered the fact that we could sell one player who didn't want to be here and get two who did want to be here,'' he said. "When you have someone who doesn't want to be here and you swap him for people who want to be here the atmosphere changes.

"It's like there is a bright new sky with no cloud over our head from the day that happened. So it's been only positive. That was really a relief for those reasons.''

Liverpool owner John W Henry also alluded to Torres' exit being beneficial for the club earlier this week, saying: "It's all very positive. Someone was saying that people weren't happy here, but I think since that person left, people are happier."

Comolli is confident that the Reds are now well-placed to move forward and believes progress can be made quickly under the new American owners Fenway Sports Group (formerly NESV).

"I know there is still a lot of work to do, we're not where we want to be yet and it'll probably take a few months to do that, but I am totally confident,'' Comolli said. "All the signs are very positive and I can see only green lights, no red lights.

"We've had some ups and downs and hopefully there will be a lot of ups in the future. With the backing of the owners and the way they are committed, I'm sure we'll have a bright future. I think we know exactly where we want to get to.

"It was a tough decision (to get rid of Hodgson) made by the club, but we have been looking forward since that and making other appointments with key individuals as we look to restructure the club. We are definitely looking forward to a bright future.''

Only you have to put the word "big" into context as come the transfer window and UEFA's financial fair play rules come into effect.

Essentially in this environment £40m will be as big as it gets.

Edit: £40m net spend I mean. Obviously if we recoup on player sales the total spend could be higher.

Looking at which players are likely to leave we could recoup around 15-16m of player sales, for example Aquilani alone is 14m

Lets hope the owners spend big
