Morientes - Misses out on spain squad

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

i initially thought morientes would be at anfield next season after reading how he wanted to fight for his place and how he felt he had unfinished business in english football but after reading the quotes from the daily mail it looks like he is on his way.
its a pretty similar situation to cisse`s where he was speaking on the pitch directly after the cup final saying he doesnt want to leave and now he is in all the morning papers saying marseilles would be a dream move for him.
looks like rafa has been handing out p45`s.

You do have to feel a bit sorry for Morientes where its all gone wrong I dont know?
Probably he doesnt know either maybe the way we use him is the cause of this I dont know maybe he hasnt got the right partner to play along side thats why we never reaped any rewards from him.

He is still a very intelligent player and it cannot have left him, maybe he can shine again somewhere else in warmer climates, I wish him the best of luck should he be moved on.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

i think Nando is as baffled as anyone else, as to why his form has left him.  He's a class player, that's obvious.  His passing is good, his touch of the ball is good....heck, when he does get a goal, they're usually taken well and he looks quality.  But, he can't do it week in, week out, and i think the Premiership is too quick and aggressive for him. Its a shame, because i like him.  But, Football is a business and noone will find it harder to let Nando go than his mate Rafa.

he's going nowhere

I think no club wants him or if any club wants him, they want to buy him very low low price but of course Rafa wont sell him because it's a loss .

We'll do well to get anything for him. Selling him for £2m is a loss but better than holding on to a player who has nothing to offer and will cost you a couple of million pounds every year in wages.

I have seen nothing from him since he was here. I'd be surpised if we got more than £2m

Well I can accept and agree that he's been not good enough for Liverpool. But underate him til the point of saying nobody will pay for him, or that we won't get more than 2 M quid for him is hilarious, if you ask me.

If we are not going to get money for him, Then Kewell + Cisse are worth of 75 pennies and a packet of Rolos.

Someone in Spain will pick up a bargin in my opinion, he cant do it in the EPL, but he will do well back in Spain. A good footballing side could pick up a real good deal for themselves, only stumbling block would be wages.

Yeah, I think each age lasts for about...err...a year!
:Oo:

Sorry, I assume you mean he's got class, but he's too old now.  I agree.  Pele's got class, but I wouldn't want him playing up front for us next season.

What I can think is Mori + 5m = Sanchez Joaquin ( Real Betis ). They need another Striker and we need 1 more right midfield .

I think you are dead right there Luke, he will hopefuly go back to Spain and show the same kind of form he had before we signed him.
I dont think his wages will prevent him from moving on, he may have to take a cut but with a nice signing on fee i think he'll go.

I do feel sorry for him he seems a decent fella and not like he came just for the payday, it just hasnt worked out.
But we can not afford to give him another chance imo, it would be better for everyone if he went back to Spain or France.

He did turn down more money from Newcastle though, well thats what has been stated before.

Latest news ....

Liverpool are close to agreeing a transfer fee with Valencia for Fernando Morientes.

Valencia sports director Amedao Carboni has been trying to negotiate a deal for the striker who failed miserably at Anfield following his £6.3million arrival in January 2005.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry initially valued the Spaniard at £4million but the latest reports have the fee nearer to the £3million mark with Carboni trying to bring it down further.

Speaking recently, Morientes said: "I'm the first to accept my form has been disappointing.

"I haven't hit the level of performance I achieved when I was with Real but I've still got a lot to offer."
