I wouldn't worry much about Sissoko, the medical staff at Anfield does magic just ask Cisse :D . I do expect him to be sidelinded maybe a month or two to be on the safe side.

From Skysports...

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez says he expects to have injury-stricken midfielder Mohamed Sissoko back in training soon.

The Malian midfielder was left nursing a dangerous injury after the 1-0 defeat to Benfica as he damaged the retina in his right eye after a clash with Beto.

Initial reports that the summer signing from Valencia could suffer vision loss led to worries that the blow could be career threatening.

However Benitez has now followed Reds chief executive Rick Parry in expressing his belief that the injury is not as serious as first thought.

Indeed the Spaniard went as far as to suggest that the midfielder could return to training soon, as he spoke at the club's AGM.

"The first check was bad news, now it is more positive for Momo," said Benitez.

"We are now awaiting another opinion but I expect and hope to see him back training with us soon."

Rafael Benitez hopes to soon be able to welcome Momo Sissoko back to training after the Reds received 'encouraging' news of his recovery from a serious eye injury.
Sissoko suffered a damaged retina after being accidentally kicked in the face by Benfica midfielder Beto during the Champions League clash in Lisbon on Tuesday night.

The Mali midfielder has since flown back to England and is currently being cared for by the best eye specialists in the country.

The Reds yesterday revealed there has been an improvement in Sissoko's condition and that he has been ordered to rest completely before a further examination next week.

"We had bad news but we have better news now," said Benitez, speaking at last night's AGM at Anfield.

"We need to wait for another opinion. But I am positive and I hope that he will be in training soon."

Benitez received a standing ovation as he addressed the club's shareholders in the Bill Shankly Suite.

He spoke about the progress of his squad over the past year, that famous night in Istanbul and his hopes of ending the club's long wait to win the Premiership crown.

"A lot has happened since the last meeting and I am pleased to talk about the progress that we have made in the last 12 months," he said.

"Istanbul was a special night for all connected with the club, especially the fans.

"But the real aim is to win the Premier League, and everyone at the club believes we can do that.

"It would be foolish for me to say when that will happen exactly, but we will work hard to achieve our goal.

"This season the squad is stronger and the results have improved as a consequence.

"We are still in three competitions, and as I always say, my philosophy is to take each game at a time. If we follow that, then more trophies will follow.

"We brought four new players who we thought could do a job for the club and all four have brought quality to the squad."

Benitez also revealed there will be more new faces at the club next season, including recent recruits Mark Gonzales and Gabriel Paletta.

"We need some new players but it is not always the best thing to buy the most expensive players," he said.

"You need to bring in the right players you can trust to do a particular job for the team. I am not bothered about famous players, only the right players.

"It is important that we sign the right players and do not bring in players just for the sake of it. An example of this is Daniel Agger. We tried to sign him in August but could not, and we couldn't find anything better than him so we waited until January.

"We watched many right midfielders, but we were not convinced by the options available."

all the best to sissoko and hope to see him back playing again soon.

incidentally, this type of injury is not that rare in football. arsene wenger has had a similar problem for the best part of ten years and he never got kicked in the head once. :D

Even if he does lose a bit of sight in his eye, am I correct in thinking that he can wear like these special contact lenses when he plays or something?

Just a thought
