Excuse me my ignorance, what do they mean by this?

My guess would be that the ball was in Middlesborough's half of the pitch for 54.1% of the match and it was in our half for 45.9%.

Overall game was boring as hell but we picked it up in the second half and three points are in the bag. Pennant was impressive as too was Mascherano.

With the formation we played there are two players that we really missed. Kewell and Garcia. Either could have played on the left and kept Zenden on the bench or either are more than capable of playing behind Crouch allow Gerrard to sit Momo on the bench.

We could really have done with some extra flair today going forward but 3 points are 3 points.

Good result.

Nearly there now. One more win and at least fourth is ours.

Thought the penalty decision was a bit dubious to say the least...

Was a good result, slow off the block we were but a great result.

How i've been waiting for a long-distance strike like that from Stevie-g....think thats his 1st since the FA Cup final? great goal and a well taken penalty.....even though it was a dodgy decision.
Pennant looked up for it too which was nice to see, he's comin onto a bit of form of late which is good to see.

Think Alonso was rested like finnan..

Great RESULT!!

Watched the game in one of the boozers by work.
Thought the initial line up was a joke to say the least, it was obvious Boro would come to defend and with Woodgate at the back that they would be organised and dilfficult to break down.
So the one striker and Gerrard off him baffled me. Mostly because it meant that we were stuck with Sissoko as our attacking centre midfielder, which gives me nightmares.
He is woeful in that position and i was cringing last night.
Pennant was outstanding and MOM by a mile imo, he must of put about 8 decent crosses in but due to the formation there was nobody in there. Imagine we would of started with Crouch and Fowler, Gerrard in the middle with Mascherano in the first half.
We could of beat them by about 5 i reckon.

Agree with you on Pennant, mate.  He is really starting to look the part.  Some of his first touches are just sublime--pulling down raking cross-field balls with ease and wrong-footing the defender.  And, as you say, he put in some great balls, only to find that no one had made the run (one of the reasons why Zenden is never a LM).

I wish he'd have the confidence to cross with his left every so often, as he often works it well onto that foot only to try and get it back onto his right, allowing the defender to recover.  He'd also be better if he carried a bit more of a goal threat.  Of course, that would require someone on the left flank, getting balls into the box wouldn't it?

Overall, though, he's starting to play with purpose and confidence and is imposing himself on proceedings as a result.  I hope Rafa seriously considers using him against Chelsea.

Oh, and Woodgate was immense for them last night.  Stu's idea of signing him has merit although, as it's Real Madrid we'd be dealing with, I'm not holding my breath on that deal.  I'm sure they're p!ssed that Rafa 'outed' their recent approach.  Personally, I think the Agger-Carra partnership has a lot of potential but players of Woodgate's calibre are always worth a look.

Rumour has it the Woodgate fee has been set, I don't know if Boro have first option on him.

As for the game, I wasn't convinced we'd win it on the first half showing but off went Sissoko and on came the Stevie G show! In the (game) week I bring in Fabregas he scores his first two goals of the season and I was wondering if I shouldn't have made him captain instead of Stevie G. Four goals from midfield between them and I'm hoping my team will make a late surge.

I've been working on Gerrard's stats and this one will tickle a few pink

2005/6-2006/7

Peter Crouch - 31 goals in 93 appearances (0.333 goals/app)
Steven Gerrard - 34 goals in 99 appearances (0.343 goals/app)

Fair enough Gerrard is on or stays on the field longer but he isn't on the pitch purely to score goals. It would be interesting to tot up Crouch's career and compare it to fat frank who has 90 goals in 300 appearances for Chelski
