Liverpool v spurs

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby The_Rock » Sat Aug 14, 2004 3:12 pm

We could have beaten spurs if we took the game to them instead of sitting on the lead. Maybe the players mindset is fixed to defend whenever they are a goal-up from GH days. RB has to be given a few more weeks to sort the team.

But have to say, we look good when we took the game to spurs. Hope we do better in the next game.

It is 2 points lost for us and a point gained for spurs. I still can't believe the ref never gave penalty for the gerrard foul.

This is not pre-season, this is EPL. No time for testing out young players, that should had been done already.

Have to agree with The Rock. Rafa does need more time to stamp his authority on the team. He's only had  a month to sort the mess out and bed in the players who were away at Euro 2004. It looked to me like the ethos of sitting on a lead was still very much embedded in the side, which is understandable considering GH was there for 6 years. Bad habits will hopefully die out but we need to be calm and wait for Rafa to stamp his authority on the team and things WILL improve.

GH actually said two "i told you"s. 1. Cisse's good; 2. We have to be more defensive, mainly after leading.

We can't settle for one goal, if you want to win you have to finish it off so the team can't comeback and steal the points.

Hve to agree, but these are deficiencies that Rafa hopefully will identify. This was exactly like last seaon but it is going to take longer than one game to overhaul the style of football that has been evident over the last 2 years.

this is but the first game so relax guys and give the coach time to get the team gelled..thought Hamann was as usual brilliant defensively but we need s.o who can bring in more att attribute and it looks pressing now. Kewell still feels affected by his ankle injury or what? He look not so confident taking on players!! Josemi was solid

Josemi's okay. We only need someone to replace Finnan in mid where he actually doesn't belong to. He was put there since we are lack of mids. Buy quick Rafa, before it's too late.

I suspect becos of his ankle, kewell has trouble taking on players. Maybe, RB should play Kewell at centre or something to get the best off him. Getting more and more scared with kewell's performance.

Conclusion,... where is that right sided midfielder?
We'll burn Gerrard out, if he has to carry the team again.
I also think we might need to look at the back four as a group.

Fair result would have been 0-2
Spurs were lucky with the draw.
But we did let it happens to us..!!! ???

Yes, Gerrard will burn out sooner or later if he has to keep carrying the team. i am sure if we were to score the winner, Gerrard would have been involved in the goal in some capacity.
