Gary O'Neil's a far better prospect.

Very good player potentially.

The only English players i'd look at that would be within our price range are Stephen Taylor, Gary O'Neil, Dean Ashton, Jermaine Pennant and Gareth Barry.

Possibly Downing and McMahon at Boro aswell as they shown class last season, Downings form this season though was poor and he looked short on confidence before he got injured. I think the injury could do him the world of good to take him out of the limelight for a while as it seemed to be getting to him.

For me, we should have signed Ashton as apose to Crouch.

Stephen Taylor just scored a quality goal for the under 21's.

I'm not on about the finish for anyone who'as seen it. I was on about the bit built up. :D

He looked like he was shot in an old movie on that occassion. :D

Potentially though i think the lads top class. The other lads i mentioned are also in the same bracket. I like that Jerome Thomas and Aaron Lennon aswell but the two of them need alot of work doing on them.

I also said last season i believe Pennant was a better footballer than Wright-Phillips.

I stand by that.

i agree. we missed the boat there big style. pennant's a better crosser of the ball than SWP will ever be. we could also have got him for peanuts. i think brum paid something like £3m for him.

there also seems to be a common trend here of decent english players not making the grade at arsenal and moving on to better things. jerome thomas, pennant, upson, bentley, sidwell to name a few.

If i gave a toss about England here's my list of players i'd consider, in order of quality.

Goalkeepers: Robinson, Kirkland, Green.

Right back: Neville, Carragher, Young.

Left back: Cole, Barry, Warnock, Bridge.

Centre halfs: Ferdinand, Terry/Campbell, Woodgate, King/Carragher/Upson.

Right midfield: Beckham, Pennant, Wright-Phillips.

Left midfield: Barry, Downing, Warnock, Bridge.

Central midfield: Gerrard, Jenas, Parker, Lampard, Cole, Carrick

Strikers: Owen, Rooney, Ashton/Defoe, Bent.

Anything outside of that lot in my opinion aren't upto it.

I think Jermaine Jenas is a superb midfielder who has yet to reach his potential down to poor management and i believe he has the ability and right attributes to compliment Gerrard. He has it all in his locker, is a clever player, good technically and the ability to get physical aswell.

Ashton, we all know what i think there. Barry... what does he have to do to get a call up? Superb footballer and can play three positions.

the two of them are currently ripping the poles to shreds down the flanks. top class wing play.

You guys talking about the prices, it realy just depends on the circumstances. As you would all know what happened in the whole owen saga. Even the cisse one is a example, he was much sought after therefore his price increased, now the gafa clearly doesnt want him well be lucky to get half what he costs.

Its all about circumstances. Simao's price increased because they knew we had the cash. Its all about the circumstances.

Another good young player who is worth a look in my opinion is Steven Davis at Villa.  He's only about 18/19, been playing well for Villa and Northern Ireland.  Good prospect, but again, centre mid is a position we really don't need strengthened at the moment.

Agree on Pennant, I've said it a million times, we should have signed him.

As for Ashton, not sure about that one to be honest, I'd still rather have Crouch

Fat Frank is the best goalscoring midfield player in World football right now. Players who top the annual Real Madrid "players we would like to sign" fans poll are generally quite good in my experience. Ditto blokes whom players like Ronaldhino urge their managers to sign in order to win the CL are usually no mugs either. I don't like him when he barrels his way around the park against us but he is a top player.

The best in the world? ??? Ronaldinho?? second place
