Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Stan Laurel » Sun Jun 27, 2004 11:59 pm

Don't get mad with me, ok.

Let me tell you, ok lads. First of all I want to strss that I'm big fan of both Steve Gerrard and Michael Owen and that I would be gutted if they left the club. I believe that they are two of our best players and replacing them would be hard but not impossible.

I'm so sick to the back teeth of hearing Owen talking about what he wants. We all want success, the club, the fans and the other player. He's dug his heels in on signing a new deal but assures he won't do the dirty on us. He can sign a pre-contract with another club on January 1st - that's just 6 months away - he can then leave next year for nothing. If he was to sign a pre-contract with another club on January 1st, you would expect that talks with his new employers would already be underway now. In my opinion is that he fancied a move to Real Madrid and that is why he has held out. A poor show at Euro 2004 hasn't helped him so much. So, he maybe he will be forced to sit tight for a little longer. Whether he signs a new deal or not, I won't forget how he caused a distraction for all of last season and made Gerard Houllier's job even harder. The level of morale in the camp certainly wasn't helped as a result.

Now we' got Steve Gerrard giving it the big I am. I was prepared to doubt the speculation at first and given him to respond due to his involvement in Portugal but now that's our of the way, nothing has stopped him coming out and making a statement. This is now inexcusable. They all think we're a bunch of idiots and I am not impressed.

It's time Liverpool stopped pussyfooting round to laid the law down. Either commit yourselves to the club or f**k off. Do we have any pride left at all? We're all been through enough to take any more sh1t.

I've been sat at this PC for long time now waffling about Liverpool Football Club. I'm not as soft as the majority of you who want to fall at their feet and tell them how great theyare. If I am honest, I'd be gutted if they left but I certainly wouldn't cry about it. Why do we want to retain players are laying down condition after condition? We're Liverpool Football Club, we're still one of the biggest clubs in the world but the uncertainly surrounding these two will certainly put off other possible signings from making the switch to Anfield.

It's really p1ssing me off now. Get f**king rid and let's move on. Before we know it's the new season will already be here and we're still left straching our heads, waiting for them to tell us, what they are going to while our rivals raid the transfer market to strengthen.
For f**k's sake!!! A club with ambition won't be dictacted to by any ******. We're sacked the manager and various members of the coaching staff have also lost their jobs. What do they want, blood?

I agree wholehartedly with your stance. I am really getting sick of hearing that Garrard wanted Curbishley, Owen is being consulted, Gerrard demands three signings before he comes back from the Euro's etc.....

These players are too busy reading and taking notice of the hype that they have lost sight of the real world. They are employees of LFC, not the f*cking directors. I would not be consulted, and nor would I expect to have any say in the appointment of my boss, so what makes these lads think they have any right to make demands or express their preferences.

I would like to see Michael and Steven in red shirts next season, but if they feel they are too big, important, good or whatever, or they feel that their ambitions are not being matched, let them p1ss off to London or Madrid.

TWO excellent posts :)

The time for "Concentrating on Euro 2004" is OVER, the time to talk has started .

As good as Stevie and Michael are they cannot be allowed to dictate to the club  on management issues. By all means give your opinion but accept that when that opinion isn't taken up on don't throw your rattle out of the pram and talk about moving !

I wouldn't say we need to give MO and SG the boot but we do need to question their conmmitment to Liverpool FC and if found wanting then they need to be left in no doubt whose the real boss at LFC and sold for as much as possible !!!!

EURO 2004 has shown a lot of players up in terms of performance. So called "BIG" players like Raul, Vierri, Owen, Henry, Totti and Beckham have been outshone by so called "lesser" players.

Dalglish your right again all the big names exept perhapps Nedved have all bombed even Holland have not looked too hot and they have probably the most gifted team on paper at the tournament but they are all ****** as a team.

Players in General need a wake up call and if we are to sell either i would hope that the board does not just take the first offer from Chelsea and hold out and try and get a european club involved as i would rather see them playing abroad than in the Prem.

Hopefully Owen will sweat a bit and realize he is not so influencial and important as he thought after the performance of Baros.

the main worrying thing at the moment is the SILENCE. we don't know anything that is going on. if he was staying then surely a statement would have come from the player himself stating his desire to stay. if the transfer goes through then several questions will be asked:

1) did liverpool football club decide to sell their most valuable asset to recoup the money? this could especially be the case with the proposed thai deal falling through.

2) did steven gerrard actually want to leave liverpool? he wasn't unhappy when he signed a new contract so what has changed in 3 months?

3) why was rick parry jetting off half way around the world instead of trying to persuade gerrard to stay?

all in all, liverpool football club are to blame if stevie g leaves. the ball is in our court. it's simple. do we want to sell him or not?

it's never that simple because we do not know what has gone on behind closed doors and as Mr Abramavich has the deepest of pockets the only thing that i can see Steve moving for would be the Money and the chance to win something in the first season as he wants trouphys but is not prepared to wait for them to come he wants them now like a petulant child would.
I think laying all the blame at parry and the board is not correct because at the end of the day Steve has the power to say no. But as his Agent has been watching Euro 2004 with Kenyon & co i would suspect that Steve is far from blameless and has probably been looking for the move.

Parry is so naieve that he thinks that if the club do not make a commnt then it will go away we need to stand up to the likes of Chelsea and not let them do everything their own way if steve goes i would hope that we can move him to a club abroad just to ****** kenyon & co off.

Dear Stan laurel, whilst I would be the first to appreciate your avatar, as many men would, I find it desperately pathetic when people like you copy opinions word for word from other forums namely Kraptalk.com see link

Koptalk.com

This is probably to make yourself look and feel wordly wise about football matters. so unless you are the editor on Kraptalk.com, where this post originated from, please give us YOUR OWN PERSONAL OPINIONS not that of others.

Little St Michael was caught out a while back doing the same thing ffs. I hated other kids doing this when we was asked to do homework at f*****n school!!..........when I was 11 years old!!

Good post lads, I agree with what everyone is saying, if they want to be Liverpool players then stay but if not shut up and go, no player is bigger than the club, I don't want to go on but could you imagin them saying all this to Shanks? I don't think their feet would touch the floor if they did, Liverpool need to put their foot down and sort all this out sooner rather than later so if they do go we can get replacements in before all the decent players are snapped up!

While any side Benitez fashions would be better with the option of having Gerrard in it (if we had limitless cash to spend), we have to realise that Rafa could almost certainly assemble a far better side without Gerrard than the one we've had in the last two years. (Not hard, admittedly!); so there's reason to be at least partially optimistic. Things will still be better than they have been in the last couple of years; what's unclear is if they could still be as good as we hoped. In that respect, it could still go either way.

In truth, it would be nice not to have to rely on Gerrard's brilliance, but have ten outfield players capable of playing their part (instead of looking to Gerrard to do everything). Remember, in 2001 Gerrard was a very fine player indeed, but he was just a cog in a well-oiled, well-balanced machine; he merely played his part - he wasn't carrying the other ten as he had to do last year.

Even if Gerrard stays, his influence on the team could go either way: he could look better with better players around him - but perhaps while still being incredibly influential, he wouldn't shine quite as much as last year as, once Benitez has made signings, he'll have more able assistants to trust the ball to. (In the same way he was merely 'very good' for England this summer as the other midfielders wanted the ball as much as he did, and unlike the Liverpool midfield, they didn't happily leave the ball for him to use at every single opportunity).

You also have to wonder why Gerrard would want to go to Chelsea to be merely Frank Lampard's water carrier - as the better goalscorer, Lampard will always be their attacking option, so Gerrard will have to play a more restricted game (as witnessed for England). While he may not see quite as much of the ball next season should he stay at Liverpool, he would at least be guaranteed employment in his favoured capacity - and thus enjoy his football.
