Kirkland was at fault for Solanos goal on saturday - he was in a poor position and was unsighted.
I believe Dudek would have kept that one out, although i think Kirkland is the better bet for the future.

How can you blame him for the goal lol?

I mean, he dealt with the situation badly, but you cant blame him!

As for being in a poor position, how do you work that one out? He was standing exactly were Salano put the ball for crying out loud, he couldnt have been in a better position...that is the reason why it looks so bad, i mean if Salano had of put the ball into the far corner and Kirkland had to run and dive it wouldnt have been less thought of because we would have said the ball was well placed. In Chris's circumstance he should have done way better as the ball was near enough right at him, all he needed to do was stick his hand up and tip it over, but instead he did something im still try to figure out!

Maybe he was on here reading this topic and decided to try and be more acrobatic...i dunno though, your guess is as good as mine. :p

He covered the goal wrong. When defending direct free kicks the school of thought i prefer is to let the wall cover one side of the goal, with the keeper on the other. Look at the replay - Kirkland is behind the wall and can not see the ball as it is struck leaving him open to a powerful shot. The solution is to stand the other side and track the ball all the way to allow a save to be made.

Kirkland has a LONG, LONG, LONG way to go before he can be considered a top keeper.

yeah i really wanted him in when dudek was playing regularly but now im not so sure, dudek pulled off some great saves against spurs and i reckon the only thing keeping kirky in is the fact that hes english, if he was foreign he wouldnt get a look in at the moment cos dudek is a top keeper although prone to the occasional clanger once every 8 games!

That's about right, It was a save that could have been made, rather than his fault.
The lad is only average at the moment, he is not yet at the top of his game.
The only problem is, it is costing us points. 2 lost that a Top class goalie might have saved for us.

what i like about kirkland is that he is solid and safe, he is by no means spectacular but he is so much more reliable than dudek, especially from corners and freekicks. He has also installed more confidence in the defence who were clearly nervous with dudek in goal.

i still feel that kirkland is gd at coming out of his line , faster... but i think he really need time to  get back form.. and that the defence is not covering him well.. dudek may be back soon as his games were quite gd in the reserve.

Kirkland will prove to be the first truly great keeper we have had since Bruce Grob if he stays fit, and gets a run in the side.
Last season he showed flashes and was finding his form only to be set back by injury on more than one occasion; he is also still young for a top class keeper who tend to mature lature than outfield players.
