If Rafa indeed has a summer clearout, i can't see him getting rid of the following players, in no particular order:

Gerrard
Hamann
Alonso
Cisse
Riise
Morientes
Carragher
Finnan
Traore
Carson

While I don't expect the team to undergo a significant change and scrapping the majority of the team and reserves, I would be surprised if we didn't make a few transfers to compensate for our lacking performance.

Which, given the base scenario that Rafa will keep the players listed, it really means we need an extra player in the forwards, midfield, defence. While it will be heartbreaking to see familiar names and faces go, it would only be prudent to rationalize the player list, pool the resources from the transfers out and swap it for a few inpirational players.

Personally, i'd probably let:

Diouf
Baros
Gerrard
Diao
Cheyrou
Kewell
Traore
Pellegrino
Dudek

All go. It would raise a fair bit in transfer funds and getting rid of players with an attitude and also some dead wood.
