Enough midfielders, now for the defenders - Realistic targets to sure up the defence

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby tubby » Mon Jul 11, 2005 7:03 pm

For a while im sure Rafa was chasoing Gabrielle Milito but ive not heard anything recently. Its still a posibility.

Upson looks like a no no now. Dare is say Liverpool may be headed back into the french league for some business.

Rafa has a few options there like Phillip Mexes or Patrice Evra.

In england apart from upson theres not really much to offer except Ledly King or Anton Ferdinand. Anton may still take a year or 2 to be up to playing for Liverpool and Tottenham are trying to re build themselves so im sure if they did decide to sell LK he wouldnt go for less than £10Mil.

I really wouldn't mind any of Gallas, Millito or Upson as they are fantastic players in their own right, Rafa can make them worldclass.

Upson to be the next Cannavaro anyone?

I think so maybe yes. If he can make Eurpoean winners out of Traore and Biscan then im sure already established good players like Upson would be great. But didnt Rafa say today in the conference hes not interested in upson. I think Milito would be great but i not sure about some Argie players. The premiership is very fast paced and most of the big Argie players ive seen are too slow. Like Riquilme, Saviola and Pellegrino who we all know about. Although the ones that do well are brillinat like Aimar. I think buying another english defender would be good though.

:D  :D  :D

Robert Huth is not worth. He doesn't use his mind while playing. He commit unnecessary tackles, which influences the outcome of games. Ex: Brazil v/s Germany (Confederations cup), the foul he committed on Adriano which led to a penalty.

I would rather have Djimi Traore as CB.

chealsea will not sell gallas to another title chasing team they will sell him abroad, upson would be a great addition and  the plus is he knows the english premiership and would slot in straight away, and six million is pretty good business if it comes off.

Gallas is a better player than Huth and i think that if we make a bid for him, he may be tempted to put pressure on Chelsea to leave.  Can't see him being first choice at Chelski next year.  Failing that i'd go for Upson, both players are proven in the premiership.  I wouldn't take a gamble on Milito as South Amercian players have found it very difficult to adapt to the premiership in the past.

My first choice would be Gallas, but I can't see it happening.  The reason he was suggested was because he had to keep playing at full back in the second half of last season.  That was because Bridge and Ferriera were out for months, so it had to be done, but I believe he'll be back in the centre with Terry again soon enough.  Shame, he's world class IMHO.

Milito - Wouldn't mind signing him, solid and quick

Gallas - The best mentioned so far but even if he wants away chelski will make him go abroad rather than sell to a rival

Upson - I'm undecided.  Looks good at times but I have to wonder why Wenger let him go.  He's no mug Wenger so there must be a reason

I heard that milito was at liverpool for a medical yesterday.

Of all the rumours this is one of the most consistent, and I think it's nailed on he will sign for us.

Raffa would not rule out Upson and Gallas unless he was close to signing someone else IMO.

Gallas isnt playing his natural position at chelsea, and next season, mourinho might start other guys in front of him.  I think gallas is frustrated and we can get him.  I wouldnt mind milito either.
