I've been reading quite a bit about this player over the weekend. Anyone know much about him? Would he be a good buy and would our relationship with Crewe be an advantage if we were interested.

yeah, he's a saggitarius and his favourite food is italian. :D

nah seriously, there are a lot of premiership clubs keeping an eye on him. i think he's the top scorer in the championship at the moment. it's always a risk however, taking on a stiker from a lower league. the last successful one i can think of who made the step up successfully was kevin phillips.

Yeh I hear what you are saying and agree with you, although it seems Morientes wont be coming.

Just thought that Ashton might be worth a gamble at £2 mill.
Scored 19 this season already.

But yes I agree with a post elsewhere. We need to sign some proven players, especially ones who will put the chances away.

I think with any prospective player we have to look at what he brings to the table in terms of (and I hesitate to use the word, Stu will love this) attributes. If a guy is a goalscorer, how does he score? will he be able to score against better defenders?
For example, if we were to sign Van Nistelroy or Henry (I KNOW WE WONT ITS JUST A FOR INSTANCE) its fairly safe to assume they would score goals for us. The only variable would be they would have to put up with inferior service to what they are used to.
If you sign a foriegn striker, from a poor league ie France, would he be able to cope with the Prem? Obviously its safer if he's uprooted trees in Europe and done well against English clubs (Drogba) or conversely more risky if he hasn't (Cisse). All this is very well as long as the price reflects the risk. You'd expect to pay top dollar for Henry or Drogba because you'd be failrly sure they would do the biz.
On the question of Dean Ashton, he has been a good player for a couple of seasons now. It's only this year that he's really exploded onto the scene but everyone in the Prem will have checked him out at some point. I've got him down as a Beattie type striker, big strong lad, good in the air. Not that pacy or posessing of great touch though. At about 2 million, maybe Bolton or Pompey might think he's worth a punt and I wouldn't necessarily disagree but for us? I don't think so on balance.

Crewe is only 5 miles from me and I've heard all the hype about Ashton, he's been bangin them in for 'the Alex' now for about 2 seasons so I'm sure if Earnshaw can play in the EPL so can Ashton, heres his profile: http://www.crewealex.premiumtv.co.uk/page....00.html

Stu, you got banned for being a racist.  I'm asking you, why don't you like black people?  Did you get sacked from the Police for being a racist?
