Just an update here guys, with all but four places in next seasons CL confirmed.
Fenerbahçe SK will start in the group stage of the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League after FC Porto's success in the 2003/04 competition.
The Turkish Superleague champions were originally due to enter in the third qualifying round but because Porto qualify as the title-holders rather than by virtue of their domestic triumph, Portugal's place in the group stage passes to Turkey. Portuguese runners-up SL Benfica will remain in the third qualifying round.
The 14 other teams in the group stage are: Valencia CF, FC Barcelona, AC Milan, AS Roma, Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, SV Werder Bremen, FC Bayern München, Olympique Lyonnais, Paris Saint-Germain FC, Panathinaikos FC, Olympiacos CFP, AFC Ajax and Celtic FC. It means that the 1999 winners Manchester United FC, the 2002 champions Real Madrid CF, the 2003 runners-up Juventus FC and the 2004 finalists AS Monaco FC will all have to go through the third qualifying round.
Four more qualifying places can be sealed over the weekend with FC København, FC Dinamo Bucuresti and NK Maribor in the driving seat to take the places on offer to Denmark, Romania and Slovenia. Also, the winner of a one-off championship match between FC Sioni Bolnisi and FC WIT Georgia will become Georgia's representative.
The only other countries yet to declare their 2003/04 champions are Moldova, Slovakia and Ukraine, with the Ukrainian runners-up also earning a place in the competition. The draw for the first and second qualifying rounds will be held on 26 June with the third qualifying round draw following on 30 July.
The 2004/05 season will see the start of UEFA's club licensing system. In order for a club to be admitted to any of the UEFA club competitions, minimum standards in areas including sporting matters, infrastructure, personnel and administration, legal matters and financial matters must be fulfilled.
