Carson is on his way... - Will he take over from dudek?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Liverpool look to have won the race to sign Leeds' promising young goalkeeper Scott Carson.

The Reds had been battling it out with big-spending Chelsea for the talented 19-year-old, but Rafa Benitez's side have now edged ahead in the race for his signature.

Carson thinks he will have a better chance of more regular action at Anfield, and is due to undergo a medical on Merseyside on Thursday.

Do you think DUDEK will end up on the bemch sooner rather than later???

ola benitez, already in anotehr post lol...
for repeat here is what bbc sports say:

and i think we do really need cover for the goalies, with dudek on the bench sooner

Liverpool have beaten Chelsea to the signature of Leeds goalkeeper Scott Carson, who is expected to seal his move to Anfield this week.
Carson must pass a medical but is set to sign a four-and-a-half year deal.

The Reds upped their offer for the 19-year-old to £750,000, with add-ons taking the sum up to the £1m mark.

England Under-21 international Carson is out of contract at the end of this season and had already rejected a new deal at Elland Road.

Leeds spokesman Bryan Morris said: "We wish Scott the very best at his new club.

"He has proven himself to be a top-class keeper during his time at Leeds United and we are sure he will continue to impress at Anfield.

"His steady nerve in pressure situations and his professionalism on and off the pitch will ensure he has a bright future ahead of him."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez had suggested Carson would find an easier route into the first-team at Anfield, with Blues keeper Petr Cech in such fine form for the current Premiership leaders.

"Coming here would be a good chance for him because he can play more games," he told the club's official website on Wednesday.

"Chelsea have a very good young goalkeeper. If I had to make that decision, I would go to Liverpool."

Liverpool are short of cover for goalkeepers, with Chris Kirkland out for several weeks with a back injury.

Youngster Paul Harrison is the only cover for Jerzy Dudek

I will sell Kirkland because he can be sold at a higher price. I think Dudek would serve as a better backup since he has more experience. Can't wait to have all the new weapons in place.:)

I hope it's true & I hope he measures up to all the rave reviews I've been reading about him
I just hope we haven't jinxed him
Everytime we buy a keeper and it goes in to £1mill category - they end up not cutting the mustard
Step up Carson - break the mould :D
