Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure Rafa didn't spend the money from the Alonso deal on Johnson. He spent just over half of it on Aquilani.

I think Johnson was 17 million quid so yes some of that came from the Alonso sale I should think. Given that by all accounts Portsmouth already owed us some money we won't have had to deposit the full 17 mill into their Russian bank account, but us writing off the money that was coming our way is only the same as spending it so there's no difference as far as I can see.

My guess is that Masch just wants to go, he knows he can get more cups, titles and money in Spain and it may make his home life a little more comfortable.

My worry is if the players really "believed" we were on the cusp of having a great side they would stay just for the cups and titles. The fact that quite a few are looking for other clubs shows that they don't think under our present circumstances that we can take the next step.

Blame the owners, the manager, beachballs or whatever, if the players don't believe we can progress....... they will look for the titles, cups and money elsewhere.

The worst part about everything is that in my opinion a lot of these players are troubled by the constant bickering between the owners, the repeated rumors about the club being sold, the selling of players to pay off debts, questions about the stadium etc etc.  Ultimately I don't think many players here don't believe in the current squad and/or manager, they're not stupid and understand the injury situation and the horrible luck we've had.  The thing that troubles them more than anything is the chaos at the helm of the club.  The players hate the situation we're in, are well aware of the struggle Rafa has gone through with the owners and the bad signs seen this last transfer window.  Although Rafa managed quite well imo with what he had to spend everyone knows money that was said to be his all of a sudden vanished and he was left with nothing really.  All the money came from the selling of players not from the revenue we made the prior season.

If you were in their situations, you would be worried too.  Not only are we having a bad season but the future of the club isn't looking very good with the current owners and that has more of a negative effect than anything else.  If we had better owners and were going through this bad spell you would still see a light at the end of the tunnel, the hope that players would be brought in to fix the situation, but we don't.  Like I said the players are not stupid, they don't just show up to work and when they leave they don't turn into mindless drones at home waiting to go back to work.  They know very well all that is going on with the club.  If Rafa sells Masch and isn't given EVERYTHING from the sale to spend the players will be even more troubled cause that shows that we just might be a selling club.

As for Masch this was inevitable I think, regardless of the situation his head was turned in the summer not only by the pursuit of Barca but the problems he is experiencing with his wife.  If he wasn't going in the January window you knew he was going in the summer.  I don't know that quite a few are looking to go elsewhere, other than Xabi and Masch no one else has expressed their discontent here?  At least no one worth mentioning.

Babel and Dossena will be looking to go elsewhere because they don't 'believe' we can take the final step and have loftier ambitions.

Not forgetting Voronin. He will obviously be eager to join a team that has proper title ambitions.

Idon't agree mate. Masch has already said that he hasn't asked for a new contract...... because he wants to win cups. Not said anything about leaving because of his wife.
