Personally, I'd go with:

                          Xabi         Momo
Gerrard                                                       Kewell.

THAT is a midfield to kick ANY team's botty.

That would be mine as well. Gerrard is the best right midfielder in the world when he plays there, Alonso and Sissoko have the perfect balance in the centre of midfield together, and imo Kewell is the best crosser we have at the club.

I prefer a 3 men midfield..... with Finnan and Riise/aurelio as wingbacks

               xabi
gerrard              momo

but have to say that I'm still not convinced that stevie and xabi can play together in the middle of the park....

THAT is a midfield to kick ANY team's botty.

That combination worked ever so well for us last season and I'd line up that way too, all things being equal, because it gives us the proper balance between defensive solidity and attacking verve.

As an aside, today's game will no doubt provide fodder for those who say that Stevie's best position is CM.  For me, though, it's not about Gerrard's starting position but, rather, comes down to whether he's enjoying his football.  Last year he was happy on the right: he had a lot of success out there and made the position his own (winning player of the year in the process).  This season he's been much more frustrated out wide because he hasn't been able to have the same impact on games.  Moving him back to the middle has certainly started to bring the best out of him again, primarily because he's more involved and thus happier.

Now, I'm not suggesting we pander to Gerrard's every whim or anything but the fact is that he is a bit of a mercurial lad and the happier he is, the better he plays.  And, quite frankly, we need him to play well to help the team move up the table.  So, if CM makes him happy and this translates into better performances--and it has done--by all means leave him there.  But, when and if (respectively) Momo and Kewell come back, Rafa may need to convince Stevie that the right side of the pitch is Shangra-la once more.

Thats my first choice as well. Momo and Xabi are well suited to each other in the centre and Gerrard can play anywhere on the field and do a good job.

Kewell is a major worry for me though. Many people are suggesting that he won't pull on another Liverpool shirt again. He is actually odds on NOT to play for Liverpool again, so someone must know something. I like Harry and was made up for him last year but his Liverpool career has been a combination of bad luck and bad performances. I hope this is not the last we have seen of Mr Kewell.

Youve nailed it Lando, if Kewell ever gets fit.  Until he does I would play Riise (or if I wanted to tear my hair out, Garcia )
on the left.

I cant remember a more irritating, frustrating , and WORSE player than Garcia. Yet hes also one of the BEST, most creative and imaginative players we have. How the hell do you solve the connundrum that is Garcia?

I have known players that some fans liked and some hated, but never a player like Garcia that fans both love and hate at the same time. :D

Well I have to say that if Kewell leaves, the fans are to blame.

I've slated him in the past, but the fact is he hasn't asked for the injuries he's had.

We'll be losing one heck of a player if he leaves.
