Rafa obviously values the league and doesn't want to risk giving away points by throwing in someone in a game that could go either way into the middle of the park in the middle of a game, when they are not used to the pace of the game.

..or maybe Rafa is waiting for January to sell a healthy Aquilani & buy back Alonso

Alberto is available to play," said Claudio, a paramedic at Roma. "He has been ready for more than a month. He feels good, the injury has cleared up and he is confident he is at no more risk than any other player of the problem coming back.
"The only way he can get truly fit is to start games. There has been a lot of frustration for him, first at being injured and then at not being chosen to play for so long. He is a player, so of course he does not want to wait to be involved with the team and to start his career in England.
"I do not know why Benítez has chosen not to play him, but that is an issue for Alberto. He must convince the coach he has to play."
Yet Aquilani's father insists, despite the long wait to feature for his new club and the heartache of leaving Roma, the team he supported as a child, Aquilani could not be happier on Merseyside.
"He is really happy in Liverpool, he has settled in really well," he said.

In that case we would be lucky to even get 5 millions for him. On the other hand surely Alonso's value would be more than what we paid for him ? Around 40 millions may be ?

A prime example of why i wouldn't trust rafa with 20 pence .....never mind 20 million!..... he wont be given anymore money by these two yanks to squander on unfit, unproven and average players aka deggen, voronin, dossena, Reira, Lucas, N'gog etc...........he has wasted enough time and money, he will have to "muddle on" with what he has and hope he can win a trophy by may or otherwise he will be out....and i for one wont bat an eyelid if he does go.
... Degen and Voronin are free transfers you muppet! Ngog costs 1.5 million and Riera was a success in his first season who played a great part in us being consistent. Only Dossena among your list can be considered a fail buy...
