I'm not the biggest fan of rugby and dont really understand the tactical terminology of it. But when the occassion arises I get on the bandwagon.

Of course I'm hoping England win it AGAIN ! but from what I've heard we dont really stand a chance. Can somebody tell me in Lehmans terms why ?

If England cant win it, I honestly wouldnt mind any of the British teams winning it, and thats Ireland included  :D . I dont want the All time classic chokers (cough, cough) Blacks to win it, as there pretty up themselves, and I certainly dont want Australia to win it either. The Aussies have got a good team, but the way they carry on in the American-esk style of big noting themselves I'd love them to fall flat on there face.

So guys do England have a chance, if somebody could enlighten me as to why I'd be very appreciative of it.

I'd love Ireland to win it but we our squad isn't good enough to sustain injuries so we won't.

I'd prefer England to win than the three teams in southern hemisphere who I think are cowardly thugs (punching guys defenseless on ground, spiking into ground, aussie thugs that play the compromise rules game (mixture of gaelic and aussie ).

Unfortunately, England don't have much of a chance, I think the rugby league coaches are killing the union game as too predictable with just trying to batter down the middle. Too many games for clubs also mean the players are a bit "beaten up" before the tournament starts.

France might do it too - and they are usually good to watch.

Scotland & Wales don't have a chance.

I don't really follow Rugby but do watch the big tournaments . Can't say I'm qualified to explain even in laymans terms why England aren't good enough to win  but for what it's worth when I look at the other top nations they all seem quicker, stronger and smarter than us . I'll be cheering for England but don't see us getting further than the quarter finals.

Don't mind seeing the All Blacks win it , they are after all the "Brasil" of rugby , just wish they'd pack in that dopey Haka at the start of each game , fks sake grown men pretending they're some ancient Maori warriors , a bit like the middle class white kid makiing out he's a "Gangsta" wearin his hoodie and givin' it "Yo" at every opportunity. f'uckin' embarrassing.

God forbid the Aussies win it , they are poor losers and even worse winners ! and as for the French , the less said about them the better.

My totally unqualified tip , put your money on South Africa. :D

I agree about tha haka being stupid, your team is supposed to stand there and be intimidated by these non-maori white european stock men pretending to be tribal.

If I had my way, the Irish team would do Riverdance at the same time, get too close and the kiwis get a kick in the face.

i suppose in a way, the fact that england go in with no real expectations this time may prove to be a blessing. it basically all hinges on the south africa game. win that and we'll likely play a home nation in the quarter finals. lose it and we'll probably end up playing australia.

to be honest i hope scott (LFC#1) replies in this thread soon because i want to taunt him about how new zealand go into every tournament as overwhelming favourites and bottle it. :D

seriously though, the only was i can see them not winning it this time around is over rotation (they basically have two teams of equal standard) or complacency.

france are at home which is always an advantage but you never know what team is going to show up.

SA is not a bad bet at all. if anybody is going to beat new zealand it's going to be them. i think they're scheduled to meet in the semis.

And the English can do some Morris dancing , all bells , sticks and white hankies.

The Scots can do some jigs over a pair of crossed swords

The Welsh can wave Leeks at each other and sing some dirge about the rain in Rhyl .

Didnt the English turn their backs on the Haka's once ?

Or someone did .... fair play to them an all.

If they can do there Haka the opposition should have every right to do want they want IMO.

now now woof

i wouldn`t wave a leek i would want to wave a daffodil and sing about are rolling hills of old

oh no was just about to burst in to song then but held myself  :eyebrow

as for the rugby sa and france will be the teams to watch, wales have to many injurys to have any chance what so ever

ireland pretty much the same as wales

england i think might make it to the q/f or s/f that will depend on how they get on in the early games

n/z will of course be there but they are a team that attack attack attack and this is there down fall every time they no notion of defence and teams know this and they will run at them all game long the bigger teams will tot up the scores against them

One of my most vivid memories on rugby is NZ v England played in South Africa (?) Lomu had the ball and he stormed forward, an english player stood in his way , Lomu made no attempt to dummy or jink past him. He just ran straight over the fella as though he wasn't there   It was like watching an express train running into and over a cardboard box.  The english player was left pressed about 4 inches into the pitch , like something out of  looney toons  :D

I am the exact opposite and don't want a northern hemisphere team winning. Added to that i HATE NZ and SOUTH AFRICA so want the aussies to win. i am a massive rugby nut and am playing a big semi tomorrow. I disagree with a few on here who say the southern h teams are dirty. South africans are the worse but oz and nz play hard tough rugby. The reason england won't win is because this time 4 years ago they had a huge amount of momentum. They drew with NZ in NZ which is the closest they have come to losing there in about 6 yrs. The players were all at there peak 4 yrs ago and a majority of them now have retired or are playing with walking sticks. I think its going to be a cracking world cup and can't gopast those chokers NZ but watch out for oz and france.
