A very high end PC would blow any of the consoles out of the water, you just have to look at Crysis to see that.

Depends. Generally PC has the best of it when it comes to online in FPS's and stuff. There's no touching the controls of a keyboard and  mouse in those kind of games, and you can have anything up to 64 players on one server, which makes playing a game like COD all that much more better and hectic.

The thing is with consoles these days now is that they are getting all the games that come out for PC with little or no difference. JBG mentioned that a high end PC blows any console away now. Not by a lot, though. PC's have only just caught up with the likes of 360, but the thing is, to run a game like Bioshock on a PC, it would cost you at least £600 just to get it running at decent frames. To run a game like Crysis smoothly (I think COD 4 is up there visually with it) you'd need a monster PC costing over a grand, but then a few months later another games comes out and blows that away, and all of a sudden your PC is outdated and needs an update. It's annoying. PS3 and 360 would be able to run a game like Crysis without a problem had they built Dx10 and added another 1 gig  of system RAM instead of 512MB into the hardware.

I'd say overall the consoles are the better option for gaming with the next wave of releases coming up and such. PC is great for mods and patches and stuff like that, though. But is that worth the money you need to pay just to get a single game to run on it with not a great leap in graphics? I think not. Anyway, they say that you will need to replace all existing hardware once DX10.1 is made avaiable. You can imagine the amount of people going mental having just forked out for a mega system to play one game - Crysis. Once DX10.1 comes out, it will make games like Crysis look like pong.

It's 40 quid, I think, for a gold membership. By now MS really should have cut that price in half. It's a joke, but still worth paying for.

And, yeah, you can play SF2 and a good few other arcade, PC and console classics online. You need to buy gamerpoints and then you can buy a few of them to keep. You can even play the original Doom over live against 4 other players. Nostalia at its very best.

For the purist games now look better on PC than on a console. Oblivion works very well on the PS3 and 360 but if you have a very high end PC Oblivion looks mental, as you can apply far more AA (anti-aliasing) and AF (anistropic filtering) to sharpen the image over the console versions and you can also mod the game to give far better shadows and textures.

Bioshock also looks better on PC, mainly because of AF.

Unfortunately there is not that many great titles coming out on PC which are PC exclusive, Crysis and FarCry2 are the only ones off the top of my head and I have no doubt that both will end up on consoles in some shape or form.

However, for the gaming purist, playing Unreal Tournament 3, Crysis, CoD4, Far Cry 2, Alan Wake etc on a super pimped out PC on a large flat screen monitor next year will take some beating.

I know what your saying JBG but you also have to look at how much a top knotch PC setup will cos and also how long before it's out of date, a 360 will cost £200 and last your a good 3 years where £200 is what a semi decent graphics card alone will cost  :oh:

I put Unreal Tournament 2003 on my Macbook last night for the first time in ages, even though it's 4 years old it still plays and look good, I canna wait for UT3 and that is the only title that makes me slightly jeallous of PS3 owners.

scouser 'til I die wrote:I beg anyone whose considering to purchase a xbox 360, pay for the extended warranty. I say this because recently I have encounted the dreaded red ring of doom on my xbox 360 (the 3 out of four rings on my xbox starts flashing red and the xbox shuts down completely, with hardly any hope of it turning on, and even when you think you've got it working think again, its just playing with you because after an hour or so the ring of doom will haunt you again and again until you give up like yours truly and get the bastard repaired) i have been reading on forums etc to try n fix it but no chance because it's something to do with the hardware. So i will have to send it off to get repaired for £80+

basically don't do what i did and think that the basic free warranty will be the right deal for you because you think it wont happen to you, but i assure you the chances are smaller for you to have a working xbox by 2 years on from purchase

fuck jay jays tip of the day, jays tip of the day is more useful and outdoes any jay jay tip :p

You don't have to pay for the extended warrenty, MS throw in a free 3 year extended warrenty  :eyebrow

Yes, while I say a top notch PC will clearly be better than a console that has only been the case for the past couple of months and such a machine would set you back three to four times the cost of the console.

The 360 is great value (provided it doesn't break) as is the PS3, albeit the PS3 is still too expensive as Sony has packed too much on board.

Only have to go into school for 15 minutes because it's Target Setting Day so I'll have the rest of the day to play it.

FM 2008! and FM Live! You guys heard about the new live?
It costs but you canplay and compare against others in the world plus more.
Fm 2008 i believe is going to be very 20th century.

These are just gut instincts by the way.

And Pro08!
Anyone no who the licensed teams are?

Can't wait. Many long nights playing Fm or Pro...make me fail my A-Levels :p

Cheers guys
