Yeah I downloaded it today and tried it out. Don't like it much, nothing compared to PES.

The PES demo is much better than the FIFA one. It feels so much more natural when you're playing. The graphics for both games are superb though.

Only just though (demo vs fifa)...I disagree about the graphics mate. Look at the crowd and the pitch/lack of shading on the aerial ball (again) etc... its no better than last PES 6. And that was thrown together.

Next gen?

Its easy as pie to score (no matter the difficulty), the ball is still like an ice puck, the players/animations suffer from slow down. Its not going to be changed that much, it went gold las week so pretty much this is what you'll get.

I might give the pair of these the swerve this time round and stick to UEFACL for a while - that isn't without criticism neither.

Sorry, I didn't mean the crowd. The crowds usually look rubbish. I meant the shirts and the players. They look better to me.

Now that you mention it though (and after playing a few more matches), it plays very similarly to PES 6. Feels better than FIFA though.

The players themselves look crisp and fluid in their movements (even if they all look about 16)  :D

But for me, the PES of old that we know and love is dying...what a shame.

Disagree.

I think the demo is stunning in more ways than one. The gameplay has had a massive overhaul in most area's. Player animations are some of the best, if not the best, I've ever seen in a game. Just pause it and go to a replay and slow it down to see what I mean. It's breathtakingly realistic.

Graphics wise, it lacks some polish from Fifa titles (stadiums and pitch etc etc) but the player models in Pro Evo blow Fifa's away. They just look more natural in shape, and the face modeling is spot  on. They just look like their real life counterparts.

Like I said, this version of Pro Evo is a lot different than 6. It may not seem like it initially, but it's far deeper. Tackling is more balanced. You can now tackle from behind and win the ball without getting carded, and player movement on and off the ball is far more realistic. Players also react faster and how you want them to when throwing crosses into the box, another feature that's been massivly improved on. Try cracking low crosses into the box to see what I mean by tapping the cross button. Causes all kinds of madness in the area. The goal keepers have also been improved, most notably when they are stopping shots and are quick to come out of the area to cancel out any threat.

The A.I from the CPU is also stunning. Yesterday they (Argentina) were winning one nil, and it was late in the game. Tevez had the ball in an advanced possition. Instead of going for goal or passing it, he ran himself into the corner flag and shielded the ball by rolling his foot over it with his back to the defender just to waste time. I've also had defender take me out deliberatly as I'm about to break into the box.

Pro Evo is not dying. It's doing what it says in it's name and evolving this year. I fully expect the retail version of this game to be amazing. Pro Evo is back on form.

Like i said. I rate the demo (ergo Final code as well don't forget) to be superior to the Fifa 08 one. Slightly better...

However, modelling and ball physics aside (which are marginally improved) if not the actual tracking of their position on screen (again!) Why is that?

You cannot laud this 'upgrade' as anything approaching 'Next-gen' standards which, as its over 2 years already into a lifespan of an estimated 5. (I.E around halfway, therefore in its prime to be generous...of a console's capabilities such as this) as being even remotely acceptable.

For example, Iv'e heard the camera is to be compromised due to the amount of detail causing slowdown... one gripe there. Amongst several.

Maybe we are all spoilt rotten and demand things that are yet to be realised from a technological standpoint. Perhaps the developers have become lazy and prefer, like sheep. To follow fashion, disregard their followers and jump aboard the Fifa bandwagon. Who exactly is it that is reminding us of 'How close their titles are to becoming PES ' esque exactly? Hell, blow that for a kick-off, why not just evolve into Fifa's shoes...(no one will complain) So long as its still Pro evo right? - 'They' will still fork out.

I mean all we are is a full set of licences away from the damn thing already. The lines between the two are now so blurred, you wouldn't say with true compunction exactly which is which.

Is a poor effort indeed. Despite the positive notes you've made and a long, long way from my expectations after the last 'minimal' offering from Konami.

There is no question that the thing people are most disappointed with Pro Evo 08 next gen is graphically. Gameplay wise, it's just untouchable, and to be honest, almost non improvable. I mean, the game will play almost like the real thing - on a screen that is - that is possible on a console. They've just nailed almost everything. Maybe ball animation when it comes to feet is a bit sticky, but that's about it.

I agree, it's expected that the graphics should have been a hell of a lot better than what they are. But there is really nothing much more they can do with the gameplay. Pro Evo reached that apex of near perfection a long, long time ago. Now I'd say they are as close to perfection in gameplay as they are likely to ever get. I just think it's that good.

The first effort was a cash in. No doubt about that. It was a rush job to get their franchise out there on a new system. This one is what part 6 should have been. The next installment, I fully expect them to put some next gen polish into how it looks. When you look back at Pro on the PS2 from when it first came out to the last installment, the two are almost unrecognisable visually. It will be the same this gen too.
