All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)

We had dreams and songs to sing

We finished up watching The Fantastic Mr Fox (George Clooney) and The Men who stare at Goats (George Clooney). Neither was my choice , but I did enjoy them both.

The Fantastic Mr Fox I would say is a 6/10 (for an adult) probably a little higher for kids.

The Men who stare at Goats I would say is a 7/10 (or it would be but for the ending which I found a little disappointing)

I will try to watch one of the films you recommended tonight mate.

watched 'redacted' last night. after watching generation kill and jarheads people had said that it was the final piece of the 'holy trinity' of gritty, true to life iraqi war dramas which were closely based on real events.

the truth is that it's actually pretty krap. i had high hopes seeing as it was brian de palma as he usually knows what he's doing, but in this case his experimental theatrical style really doesn't work. the characters and dialogue are stereotypical at best and completely unbelievable at worst, and the main incident of the film is handled really clumsily.

the one good thing the film does, which others do better still, is reinforces the idea that the majority of these marines really don't know what they are doing, and are completely out of their depth in the culture and situation they have been placed in. a lot of the events that emerge from this are horrific, tragic and avoidable but in the majority of cases are the outcomes from situations in which the lack of understanding and lack of preparation are criminal.

I am surprised you didn't like The men who stare at goats. I thought it was a good story with a few good laughs (not that many)a bit like 3 Kings. The only thing apart from the ending I didn't like was Euan McGregor.......what a cr@p actor he is.

Mate I'm not into many comedies they make today its that stupid American humour and its something I don't find too funny.

Its complicated with Alec Baldwin and Meryl streep was a feel good movie enjoyed and I did find that pretty amusing. But its one of the movies that is more subtle in humour and doesn't try too hard to go out of its way to be funny, if you get my drift.

Funny films don't all have to be American Pie or The Hangover.
