arak spread globally in different names and ingredients of carbohydrates. in japan we know them as 'sake', chinese as 'cau' etc. and in some parts of south east asian e.g. countries like malaysia, singapore, indonesia, brunei, they are also called 'arak'. this term probably came along with the spread of islam over the corresponding countries.

We're going to Dubai soon Peewee.  Have you got any advice on where to go or what to do?  (Please bear in mind that we're a family with an eight-year-old girl.)  We're staying in a self-catering studio apartment, and everyone (for some unknown reason) laughed when I asked about hiring a car.  ???

We've got Wild Whadi and Al Khor on our list so far.  Is it worth hiring a 4x4 for the sand dunes or going with a professional driver?  (My wife's convinced if I drove we'd end up upside-down in the desert and die of thirst!)
