the only book i could not finish, and i have read some difficult books in my time. It was a reccomendation from a friend many years ago. I just could not get into it.

maybe i will try again. (also there seems to be so many after the original, dunno if i can face that.)

No what you mean i am more into the fantasy novels like the weel of time so on and so forth. And when i read it  i was young and i was just reading stuff i never understud  and did't quite get it. But read it not long ago and it was very injoyable. it's like the Lord of the Rings in the way you have to read it more than once to comprehend what you have just read. But the down side is you have to read the rest which a couple are not even wrote by him and proberly just money makers than well written novels.

I like my books although i've found i read less of them since becoming a teacher. I'm a big fan of Pratchett (especially the Guards series) and he is the only writer who can make me laugh out loud when i'm reading. It's drives the mrs nuts when we're on holiday. Have always been a big fan of Stephen King although he doesn't always end his books so well. Am about halfway through the last of (seven books!) in the Dark Tower series (it's taken me 2 years) and it's been a cracking read. Am also a fan of Clive Barker. Weaveworld is a masterpiece plus 'Damnation Game' and 'Imajika' are excellent. My fave book is lord of the Rings and i've read that 4 times over the last 16 or so years!

I also read a lot more footie books as they seem to be in fashion these days. I thoroughly enjoyed Robbie and Stevie's autobiographies (more so the robbie book) and Tony Adams is also very good (and VERY candid) in the way he speaks about his alcoholism. I also enjoyed both of Tomkins books and the Pacot Loret book on Rafa is well worth a read if you're interested in Rafa's time in Spain. I had shankly's autobiography as a kid, i bought it for 10p at a jumble sale in the local community centre but i lost it years ago and would love to read it again. Anyone got a copy?

I haven't read Barker for a few years now, will have to take a look at some of his more recent stuff. I read the sequel to Imajica, it's called Ethereal isn't it? i remember it wasn't nearly as good although still a decent read. I also read the Great asnd Secret show which was a decent read.

I used to read a lot of Herbert going back 10-12 years. He was more pulp horror but i remember moon, 42 and portal were all excellent.

a mate of mine has been raving about Ian Banks so i might give one of his books ago plus i've been meaning to read Dune as it's right up my street although it will probably take me several years!

dune is class, as are the sequels, but i think its his son who started writing them... stay away from them ones.

a good pulp horror writer is: Richard Layman

Just everyday stopries that get horrific, but he is a sexist pig. just cheap grosse out books but a good read
