Is which ever team is the dark horse and goes further then expected in this tourney.

Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0, play well right enough, if a little iffy at the back - and it proves Argentina's credentials. England draw with the USA - play a reasonable game, if a little iffy at the back - and it proves England don't have the credentials. Do me a favour. The game was well and truly there for the taking in the second half but the final delivery - from Lennon in particular, or execution - Heskey (who otherwise had an excellent game), Lennon, Lampard, SWP - wasn't there. That's why we should have brought Joe Cole on for Lennon midway through the second half and possibly even Defoe for Heskey. For the one good chance Altidore had, England had the Heskey chances (header from Gerrard cross, followed by that one v one), the SWP chance, the Rooney shot by the post, the Gerrard cross to Rooney, Lennon cross to Gerrard and Lennon layoff to Lampard toward the end and generally occupied the more dangerous positions. Toward the end of the game the build up was too slow for my liking but nevertheless the essential problem was in the final part of our play. We really did look the part in the opening half hour though - the goal was outstanding - and we looked well up for it, we just couldn't maintain that intensity for long enough. The GK error was appalling and it bears out once more one of the main problems with Green - he doesn't handle well and doesn't come across as confident. We need James in, Joe Cole on one flank and SWP or Milner on the other, and should we qualify for the R16 we will probably need Barry in the middle making Rooney the lone man up front.

you're not comparing Argentina to Engerland are ya..

the difference is Argenitina should have won by many more.. Messi lived up to his reputation and the team played excellent. They'll improve and get better.

Engerland played well in parts, but not consistantly, hence handing over the initiative to the USA. Rooney was missing (big time) and Capello's team selection was suspect..  Millner? King? at least

Why didn't J Cole get on.. and least you get an end product with him, SWP.. poor.

Any how.. be interesting to see the German's today, the Italian's and Brazil and Spain.. then we can fathom 'perhaps' who will get where..

England were impressive in qualifying, played marginally tougher opponents yesterday and were not far off the win, so I'll not be reading too much into that performance or result, either.

On the selection, King is a very good defender and didn't do badly - and who else is there? Carragher? Skinned twice second half. Milner isn't a bad option and he will play a lot better than that. As much as anything else I was frustrated at Lennon flattering to deceive when he arrived in good enough positions, more so than SWP misfiring. Agreed on Joe Cole.

If England had a won she would of jumped back over to the English side of the fence, seen as they didn't she stayed with the argies.

Every four years the same ....someone throws a barbecue 4pm ....copious amount of alcohol drunk 6:30pm... sit down to watch the game amid much expectation 7:30 kick off.... everybody piles into an already packed living room ...9:30 the realization that the euphoria you felt earlier has again been quelled in the cruellest manner ....... either that or your goalkeeper has just forgot what his gloves are for ....if this is the life of an England fan then you can count me out ,oh I will happily drink your Lager and eat your mini kebabs and hot dogs, and I will gladly join in the festivities when England score (I mean who doesn't enjoy doing the conga across the lawn ) but please don't include me in your ridiculous expectations as we all know  this is Engerland once again flattering to deceive and  its the only thing they pull off with aplomb Good party though
