Dundalk nowhere to be seen lol. The Italian media was asking Lippi why he ignored players such as Del Piero, Cassano, Rossi and even Ballotelli. Ultimately his stubborn attitude has cost them.

The most amazing thing with New Zealand is that in a world cup in South Africa no sports commentator (that i have heard) have commented on their nickname "all whites".

No European team looks any good. I thought Spain would be Brazil will probably win, Argentina and Uruguay look good too.

European teams have terrible technique. All muscle and effort.

Muscle and effort used to go a long way in football.  Not now that it's a non-contact sport though...

good point - but the dutch team of the 1970s was great, the German of 1980s to 1990 was muscle.

But not a single European  team has the skills of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico etc. have the S.A teams even lost a game to Europe?

I dont think its down to skill. I think its down to conditions. Climate etc. Many South American players play in europe and have adapted to the game. How many times have we seen a south american player in the premier league wearing gloves during spring time?

A bit of heat over here and we are all suffering ! We are not used to it, so imagine what it is like in South Africa. The south american teams are doing well as they are used to it, most of europe are not.

I didn't really rate Italy that much before the tournament as I couldn't see the special quality in their side, though I must admit I didn't expect them not to make it out of their group. It just goes to show once again that records count for sh!t if the players aren't up to it. Before it started, people went on about England's supposed mediocrity compared with sides like Italy but when you compare Gerrard, Lampard and Barry with De Rossi, Montolivo, Gattuso, and Rooney with Di Natale, the defence with the defence, it doesn't seem so surprising they went out, tbh. Similarly, the fact that Paraguay and Slovakia (debutantes) qualified shows that an absence of any record is no constraint whatsoever to a team's performance. The "newbie determination factor" definitely came into play in that group, IMO, and I'm glad it did as I much prefer to see a bit of variety to the knockout rounds instead of the usual suspects.

Looking at tomorrow's fixtures, Brazil and Portugal are pretty much through by virtue of their superior goal difference to the Ivory Coast, while in the other group it is more likely than not that Spain will have to beat Chile to qualify, which is no given from what I've seen of the two (both good technical sides).

I expected them to qualify but I also picked up on the weakness, the age. They are one of the oldest teams in the tournament and could see this being the one weakness they have. The italians have a lot to change in there game, lets face it, only the italian league could find a place for Beckham. No other league could.

They had the chances against slovakia, and on another day they would have counted, but you have to count the other 2 games they played in this group and how the italians performed. There ideas are set in there way, old if you like, after this world cup it shows, they have to move on. It used to work well for them, it doesnt anymore.
